An unexpectedly hard shot by Ruslan Cârlig in the 22nd minute of play forced U21 Austria's goalkeeper Heinz-Gerd Billmann to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The supporters of U21 Austria booed when U21 Moldova was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 22 match minutes in a wonderful position. Cristian Stratulat didn't get a good kick on the ball. The crowd rose to their feet as U21 Austria's Marcus Faller slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Igor Untilã. That made the score 1-1 after 26 minutes of play. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 1-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Ruslan Cârlig made a kick off. 51 minutes into the match, U21 Moldova's goal looked a bit too open when Marcus Faller came free, but Igor Untilã reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After some fancy dribbling in the 53rd minute, Elco Ronaldinho managed to get in a good position for a shot. U21 Moldova's supporters rose to their feet, but Elco Ronaldinho was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Despite this Heinz-Gerd Billmann quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. The U21 Moldova players were relieved to hear the final whistle blow to end the match. The away crowd was happy to see their team win after a very tight game.
