U21 Sweden's Kurt Qvarnström quickly snatched the ball and retained possesion. 8 minutes into the match, U21 England's goal looked a bit too open when Börge Söderman came free, but Lewis Bell reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 9 minutes into the match, U21 Sweden's Börge Söderman sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Lewis Bell narrowly saved just below the crossbar. An unexpectedly hard shot by Börge Söderman in the 11th minute of play forced U21 England's goalkeeper Lewis Bell to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Henry Lindell kicked well hit freekick during the 12th minute of the match. U21 Sweden's Jens-Erik Bengtsson played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Leigh Rider in the 15th minute of play. Börge Söderman sent away a hard shot on goal in the 22nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Lewis Bell made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Börge Söderman in the 24th minute of play. In the 25th minute the ball was on its way in behind U21 England's goalkeeper Lewis Bell, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. In the 28th minute U21 England were awarded a corner. Andre Speed went to the cornerflag to take it. The corner led U21 England's Andre Speed to fire away a dangerous shot which Jens-Erik Bengtsson despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. Lewis Bell showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Börge Söderman in the 29th minute of the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Bernie Sanders in the 30th minute of play forced U21 England's goalkeeper Lewis Bell to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Bernie Sanders sent away a hard shot on goal in the 32nd minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. In the 33rd minute Börge Söderman shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Lewis Bell saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Leigh Rider sent away a hard shot on goal in the 36th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. 39 minutes into the match, U21 Sweden's Börge Söderman sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Lewis Bell narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Börge Söderman took the ball and in the 39 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Lewis Bell. Lewis Bell dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-1. After having played for 42 minutes, Leigh Rider managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. U21 England's supporters crossed their fingers, but Leigh Rider was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 44th match minute, U21 Sweden was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Bernie Sanders to maneuver through the defense. When Sven-Erik Sander fell near the penalty area in the 45th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored U21 Sweden's protests and gave Sven-Erik Sander a yellow card for diving instead. In the 46th match minute, U21 Sweden was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Kurt Qvarnström to maneuver through the defense. The U21 England players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. U21 Sweden were winning 0-1.

Lewis Bell made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Börge Söderman in the 51st minute of play. Jens-Erik Bengtsson took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Hugh Barton, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Lewis Bell showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Bernie Sanders in the 54th minute of the match. Lewis Bell made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Börge Söderman in the 56th minute of play. Leigh Rider fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 59th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jens-Erik Bengtsson having to interfere. In the 64th minute, Andre Speed hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Jens-Erik Bengtsson showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from David Copperfield in the 68th minute of the match. U21 England's Andy Welch was substituted for Leigh Rider. U21 England made a substitution. Glenn Floyd replaced Ted Bundy. In the 79thth minute of the game Billy Alin who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but U21 England's Lewis Bell was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. 0-2 became the score in the 92nd minute when Billy Alin elegantly shot the ball into goal just under the crossbar. After some careless play in the U21 England defense, Billy Alin kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Lewis Bell. The U21 England fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Lewis Bell should have stopped the shot.

The U21 Sweden players were relieved to hear the final whistle blow to end the match. The away crowd was happy to see their team win after a very tight game.
