Lance Szobczak charged in rather forcefully in the 9th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Lance Szobczak the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Larry Waller took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Lionel Hahn, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Drew Rodriguez was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Arty Clist showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 1-0 in the 17 minute of play. U21 United States were awarded a corner in the 21th minute after U21 Australia's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Adrian Bustamante took the corner. Arty Clist struck a weak shot in the 24th minute. Drew Rodriguez didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for U21 Australia. An unexpectedly hard shot by Lionel Hahn in the 29th minute of play forced U21 Australia's goalkeeper Larry Waller to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. U21 United States's Drew Rodriguez played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Arty Clist in the 31st minute of play. Larry Waller made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Stevie Richmond in the 32nd minute of play. Stevie Richmond took the ball and in the 36 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Larry Waller. Larry Waller dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-1. After some fancy dribbling in the 39th minute, Lance Szobczak managed to get in a good position for a shot. U21 Australia's supporters rose to their feet, but Lance Szobczak was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Drew Rodriguez breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After 41 minutes of play, U21 United States's Stevie Richmond made it 1-2 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Larry Waller was left in no man's land by his defense there! Larry Waller showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Juan Armstrong in the 45th minute of the match. Drew Rodriguez stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Arty Clist's shot from short distance in the 47th minute. The U21 Australia players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. U21 United States were winning 1-2.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Juan Armstrong to strike the kick off in the second half. After 51 minutes, Juan Armstrong made it 1-3 with a short kick to the right side. U21 Australia's Larry Waller tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. After some fancy dribbling in the 53rd minute, Juan Armstrong managed to get in a good position for a shot. U21 United States's supporters rose to their feet, but Juan Armstrong was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Larry Waller breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. In the 54th minute, U21 United States's Adrian Bustamante ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Larry Waller. Larry Waller yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 1-4. Larry Waller made an important save on a dangerous shot by Juan Armstrong in the 57th minute. The audience thought a goal was coming when Juan Armstrong got free with Larry Waller in the 57th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Arty Clist fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 62nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Drew Rodriguez having to interfere. Drew Rodriguez showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Lance Szobczak in the 67th minute of the match. In the 68th minute of the match, Stevie Richmond tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Larry Waller saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. 72 minutes into the game, U21 Australia's Arty Clist nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Drew Rodriguez made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 2-4. U21 Australia made a substitution. Benedict Quinnell replaced Brendon Alchin. U21 United States's Rashad Roe was substituted for Sterling Dozier. Larry Waller made an important save on a dangerous shot by Juan Armstrong in the 77th minute. 78 minutes into the match, U21 United States's goal looked a bit too open when Arty Clist came free, but Drew Rodriguez reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. U21 Australia's Larry Waller played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Adrian Bustamante in the 80th minute of play. Larry Waller made a fantastic save in the 83rd minute, when Adrian Bustamante sent off a good shot on target. An unexpectedly hard shot by Lance Szobczak in the 87th minute of play forced U21 United States's goalkeeper Drew Rodriguez to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Lance Szobczak received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 94th minute. Drew Rodriguez tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. When the final whistle was heard the away supporters stood up and showed their joy. U21 United States had managed to secure a win in what was a close match throughout.
