Dion Stayton stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Duarte Iglesias's shot from short distance in the 10th minute. In the 17th of the match, Benjamin Carballeira tried to place the ball in the upper right corner, but Dion Stayton got in the way and made a wonderful save. Through an outstanding action, after 19 minutes, Dion Stayton successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. U21 Spain were furious when Paulino Bargas was red carded, 21 minutes into the game, but the referee dismissed their protests. 20 minutes into the game, one of U21 Spain:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty. Oxel Urquijo had in the 22ndth minute some difficulties stopping Martyn Oldham's well aimed penalty as it nearly passed him on his left side, but he still managed to hold the ball. In the 22nd minute, Martyn Oldham ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Oxel Urquijo was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-1. After 25 played minutes U21 England got a freekick which was hit by Stew Aiston. 26 minutes into the match, U21 England's goalkeeper Dion Stayton had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Benjamin Carballeira. In the 32nd minute Benjamin Carballeira shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Dion Stayton saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. U21 England's Dion Stayton proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 35th minute of the match, managed to save U21 England from getting a goal against them. A collision led to U21 Spain getting a freekick after 39 minutes play. Duarte Iglesias hit a great ball. U21 England's Tosh Dransfield suffered a concussion after 41 minutes and had to leave the field. Dalmai Marines's late challenge caught a U21 England's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Dalmai Marines helped the player get up and apologised. U21 England made a substitution. Reg West replaced Tosh Dransfield. A collision led to U21 Spain getting a freekick after 43 minutes play. Dalmai Marines hit a great ball. Oxel Urquijo took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Bradley Sheehan, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Dion Stayton showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Benjamin Carballeira in the 46th minute of the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Dave Cullen in the 48th minute of play forced U21 Spain's goalkeeper Oxel Urquijo to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Bart Pickering was the one to do the kick off. Dion Stayton took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Benjamin Carballeira, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After 65 minutes, Isaac Callery mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the U21 England and the U21 Spain players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 65th minute, Isaac Callery hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Duarte Iglesias's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Dion Stayton read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 66th minute of play. U21 England's Dave Cullen got a good chance for a goal in the 71st minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 75th minute of the match, Neil Best got a very nice opportunity to score, but Oxel Urquijo was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. In the 79th minute, Stew Aiston hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Oxel Urquijo made a fantastic save in the 88th minute, when Martyn Oldham sent off a good shot on target. Oxel Urquijo took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Dave Cullen, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 97th minute, Neil Best made a precise shot to the right of Oxel Urquijo. U21 Spain's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 0-2.
