The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. A collision led to Egypt getting a freekick after 2 minutes play. Abdel Masoud Adham hit a great ball. South Africa's Lesego Nunes came free and shot a quick shot against goal 6 minutes in the game, fortunately Aebeed Marwan had problems saving as it came toward the left post. Aebeed Marwan made a fantastic save in the 9th minute, when Lesego Nunes sent off a good shot on target. If Haitham Naguib had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 13th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Fuzile Mabele took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Ahmed Naguib, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After 17 played minutes Egypt got a freekick which was hit by Haitham Naguib. After a defensive mix-up in Egypt's zone, Lesego Nunes stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Aebeed Marwan came out of the goal and Lesego Nunes tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Lesego Nunes's shot straight on target was not completely harmless. The ball had pretty good speed, but Aebeed Marwan firmly grabbed it by the left post. Aebeed Marwan made a fantastic save in the 21st minute, when Timothy Mangope sent off a good shot on target. South Africa's Timothy Mangope got a good chance for a goal in the 24th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Lesego Nunes came free with the goalkeeper in the 29th minute of the match, and shot straight on target. The shot was a little too simple and Aebeed Marwan could save by the left post. Lesego Nunes could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 44th minute of the match, but Aebeed Marwan made a huge save. With a little luck, Egypt's Aebeed Marwan got control of the ball when Lesego Nunes tried to sneak it across the goal line. Aebeed Marwan made a fantastic save in the 47th minute, when Lesego Nunes sent off a good shot on target. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 1-0 at half-time.

South Africa made a substitution. Jeff Maduna replaced Wycliffe Sibeko. Egypt made a substitution. Fahmy Ghali replaced Ahmed Naguib. When South Africa's Lesego Nunes in the 53rd minute got a chance for a shot 53rd didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Egypt's goalie prevented a goal. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Lesego Nunes in the 53rd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Aebeed Marwan saved Egypt from getting behind. After having played for 58 minutes, Lesego Nunes managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. South Africa's supporters crossed their fingers, but Lesego Nunes was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 61st minute Lesego Nunes shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Aebeed Marwan saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Harry Machete hit a great freekick 65 minutes into the match. Egypt's Aebeed Marwan played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Lesego Nunes in the 69th minute of play. If Lesego Nunes had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 70th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The supporters of Egypt booed when South Africa was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 74 match minutes in a wonderful position. Akil Mahlangu didn't get a good kick on the ball. Bahaa Desouqy kicked well hit freekick during the 76th minute of the match. In the 80th minute Aino Zidan shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Fuzile Mabele saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 84th match minute, Egypt was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Naguib Mubarak to maneuver through the defense. In the 88th minute, Shaker Helal ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Fuzile Mabele was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-1. Fuzile Mabele didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Shaker Helal went, in the 92nd minute, to the upper right corner, 1-2 was the resulting score. After a defensive mix-up in Egypt's zone, Lesego Nunes stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Aebeed Marwan came out of the goal and Lesego Nunes tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. With a little luck, South Africa's Fuzile Mabele got control of the ball when Aino Zidan tried to sneak it across the goal line.
