Alejandro Espina took the ball and in the 7 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Themba Takane. Themba Takane dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-2. In the 11th minute Alejandro Espina shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Themba Takane saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 17 minutes into the match, South Africa's goal looked a bit too open when Alejandro Espina came free, but Themba Takane reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. When Urki Regalado came up free with the goalie in the 18th minute, the Ecuador fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Urki Regalado couldn't finish the play. In the 21st minute Alejandro Espina shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Themba Takane saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After 25 minutes of play, Ecuador's Alejandro Espina made it 0-4 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Ecuador's Johnny Ibarra played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Okoyomon Charles Pinazas in the 39th minute of play. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Alejandro Espina in the 41st managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Themba Takane saved South Africa from getting behind. After 42 minutes South Africa's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Ramirez Salinas who took care of the corner kick. José-Francisco Durazno was in a good position and managed to take a shot, but he missed just to the outside of the post. 46 minutes into the match, South Africa's goal looked a bit too open when Alejandro Espina came free, but Themba Takane reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-6 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

Ecuador's Johnny Ibarra played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Fuzile Mnisi in the 50th minute of play. A collision led to South Africa getting a freekick after 53 minutes play. Johannes Bartlett hit a great ball. Themba Takane came out of the goal in the 54th minute to try and stop a shot by Ecuador's Alejandro Espina. But to his dismay, Alejandro Espina quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-7. After some fancy dribbling in the 56th minute, Alejandro Espina managed to get in a good position for a shot. Ecuador's supporters rose to their feet, but Alejandro Espina was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Themba Takane breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Ecuador made a substitution. Romário Santamaria replaced Alejandro Espina. 59 minutes into the match, South Africa's goal looked a bit too open when Juan-Angel Ybarra came free, but Themba Takane reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Themba Takane made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Romário Santamaria in the 61st minute of play. Johnny Ibarra took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Okoyomon Charles Pinazas, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. An unexpectedly hard shot by Juan-Angel Ybarra in the 65th minute of play forced South Africa's goalkeeper Themba Takane to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 66 minutes into the match, South Africa's goal looked a bit too open when Juan-Angel Ybarra came free, but Themba Takane reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After 67 minutes, Juan-Angel Ybarra made it 0-8 with a short kick to the right side. South Africa's Themba Takane tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. Johnny Ibarra showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Okoyomon Charles Pinazas, who was totally free with the ball in the 71st minute. Johnny Ibarra showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Fuzile Mnisi in the 73rd minute of the match. After 74 played minutes Ramirez Salinas rounded South Africa's defense and shot a beautiful shot into goal via left pole - 0-9. South Africa's Themba Takane played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Romário Santamaria in the 79th minute of play. In the 81st minute Ecuador were awarded a corner. Ramirez Salinas went to the cornerflag to take it. Leon Kennedy kicked well hit freekick during the 82nd minute of the match. Johnny Ibarra came out of the goal in the 88th minute to try and stop a shot by South Africa's Okoyomon Charles Pinazas. But to his dismay, Okoyomon Charles Pinazas quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-10. Johnny Ibarra showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Fuzile Mnisi in the 91st minute of the match. In the 92ndth minute of the game Juan-Angel Ybarra who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but South Africa's Themba Takane was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Themba Takane stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Juan-Angel Ybarra's shot from short distance in the 93rd minute. 95 minutes into the game, Juan-Angel Ybarra recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Themba Takane. Juan-Angel Ybarra showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 1-11. The Ecuador supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Ecuador would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
