Xacintu Tormes showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Hayden Westlake, who was totally free with the ball in the 2nd minute. The crowd rose to their feet as U21 England's Hayden Westlake slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Xacintu Tormes. That made the score 1-0 after 5 minutes of play. 12 minutes into the game, Leigh Beverley threw the ball into play from the sideline. U21 Spain's Pepe Serrano quickly snatched the ball and retained possesion. Pat Jennings showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Uxio Calatayud, who was totally free with the ball in the 13th minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Freddy Hawkins in the 15th minute of play forced U21 Spain's goalkeeper Xacintu Tormes to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After having played for 17 minutes, Cisco Lermo managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. U21 Spain's supporters crossed their fingers, but Cisco Lermo was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 18th match minute, U21 Spain was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Amuruza Zapatero to maneuver through the defense. When the match clock showed 21 minutes, the score became 2-0 when Hayden Westlake sped through U21 Spain's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Xacintu Tormes. Cisco Lermo fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 24th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Pat Jennings having to interfere. 28 minutes into the match, U21 England's goal looked a bit too open when Cisco Lermo came free, but Pat Jennings reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 31st minute, U21 England's Adrian Pigott dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 3-0. Xacintu Tormes showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Freddy Hawkins in the 41st minute of the match. With a little luck, U21 Spain's Xacintu Tormes got control of the ball when Adrian Pigott tried to sneak it across the goal line. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 3-0 at half-time.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Uxio Calatayud to make the kick off. After some fancy dribbling in the 52nd minute, Milio Pascua managed to get in a good position for a shot. U21 Spain's supporters rose to their feet, but Milio Pascua was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Pat Jennings breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Cisco Lermo received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Pat Jennings came out and tried to block the shot, but Cisco Lermo slotted it home off the left post making it 3-1 in the 56th minute. In the 70th minute, Hayden Westlake got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. U21 Spain made a substitution. Tato Alacuart replaced Cisco Lermo. U21 Spain's Iratxo Olmedo was substituted for Amuruza Zapatero. Pat Jennings made a fantastic save in the 75th minute, when Tato Alacuart sent off a good shot on target. In the 77th minute, Tato Alacuart hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. U21 Spain's Xacintu Tormes played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Hayden Westlake in the 78th minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Hayden Westlake in the 81st minute of play forced U21 Spain's goalkeeper Xacintu Tormes to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After a rather tough play, U21 Spain's David Radaban got a free kick in the 82nd minute. After 89 played minutes U21 Spain got a freekick which was hit by Pepe Serrano. After 93 played minutes U21 Spain got a freekick which was hit by Uxio Calatayud.
