The audience thought a goal was coming when Sten Lustig got free with Konstanty Jaroch in the 26th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. 27 minutes had been played when some careless play by U21 Poland's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Ralf-Bertil Larsson was slow to take the kick. During this time U21 Sweden's players had a chance to rest. When Sten Lustig came up free with the goalie in the 91st minute, the U21 Sweden fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Sten Lustig couldn't finish the play. After having played for 94 minutes, Peter Ahlén managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal.
