But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Eusébio Panter couldn't finish the play. After 8th play minutes Eusébio Panter shot 0-1, a short shot which went by Freygarður Björgólfsson and just under the crossbar into goal. In the 11thth minute of the game Eusébio Panter who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but U21 Iceland's Freygarður Björgólfsson was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Freygarður Björgólfsson stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Américo Coelho's shot from short distance in the 13th minute. 15 minutes into the match, U21 Portugal's goal looked a bit too open when Vígmundur Mánason came free, but Miguel Domingues reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. With an all-out effort, U21 Iceland's Miguel Domingues threw himself towards the right post 23 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Vígmundur Mánason, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. Freygarður Björgólfsson made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Pedro Viegas in the 26th minute of play. U21 Portugal's Américo Coelho got a good chance for a goal in the 27th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Américo Coelho in the 28th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Freygarður Björgólfsson prevented the ball from getting in the gole. When the match had gone on for 28 minutes, Américo Coelho put it in 0-2 from a short distance just to the right of Freygarður Björgólfsson. When Teitur Arnljótsson fell near the penalty area in the 33rd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored U21 Iceland's protests and gave Teitur Arnljótsson a yellow card for diving instead. A collision led to U21 Iceland getting a freekick after 33 minutes play. Teitur Arnljótsson hit a great ball. After a rather tough play, U21 Portugal's Eusébio Panter got a free kick in the 36th minute. Miguel Domingues showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Teitur Arnljótsson in the 38th minute of the match. In the 39th minute Américo Coelho shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Freygarður Björgólfsson saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Freygarður Björgólfsson showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Américo Coelho, who was totally free with the ball in the 40th minute. After 41 minutes, Eusébio Panter made it 0-3 with a short kick to the right side. U21 Iceland's Freygarður Björgólfsson tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. Cristiano Matos kicked well hit freekick during the 45th minute of the match. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-3.

Américo Coelho who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 51stth minute tested the skills of Freygarður Björgólfsson when he managed to save the team from getting behind. Eusébio Panter's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 55thth minute, Freygarður Björgólfsson skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal. Gil Almeida's late challenge caught a U21 Iceland's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Gil Almeida helped the player get up and apologised. In the 56th match minute, U21 Portugal was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Gil Almeida to maneuver through the defense. A collision led to U21 Portugal getting a freekick after 57 minutes play. Johnny van Persie hit a great ball. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Teitur Arnljótsson in the 58th minute a chance for a shot on goal. Kristdór Svangeirsson hit a great freekick 65 minutes into the match. U21 Portugal's Vítor Ferreira was substituted for Rachid Baba Ali Raaymakers. Eusébio Panter did some fancy footwork in front of goal and succeeded to deceive the defenders so he could slam the ball in 0-5 to the left of a surprised Freygarður Björgólfsson 80 minutes into the match. Eusébio Panter sent away a hard shot on goal in the 83rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 86th minute, Örn Jafetsson hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. When U21 Portugal's Eusébio Panter in the 88th minute got a chance for a shot 88th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. After having played for 92 minutes, Jardel Coluna managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. U21 Portugal's supporters crossed their fingers, but Jardel Coluna was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. When the final whistle was heard the away supporters stood up and showed their joy. U21 Portugal had managed to secure a win in what was a close match throughout.
