An unexpected shot in the 4th minute by Severiano Beliran got the crowd on their feet, but to their dismay it went out on the left side. 10 minutes into the match, Venezuela's goalkeeper Baltasar Banzo had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Saul Pietro. Severiano Beliran blasted a shot towards the goal in the 13th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Baltasar Banzo having to make a save. Leonardo Lleir made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Gauargi Molledo in the 15th minute of play. 17 minutes into the match, Venezuela's goal looked a bit too open when Saul Pietro came free, but Baltasar Banzo reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Baltasar Banzo showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Severiano Beliran, who was totally free with the ball in the 19th minute. In the 23rd play minute Severiano Beliran came free and shot an unsuspected shot which went into goal from the right pole behind a surprised Baltasar Banzo. 1-0. If Gauargi Molledo had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 27th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. 30 minutes into the match, Mexico's Severiano Beliran sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Baltasar Banzo narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Xavies Piñan's late challenge caught a Mexico's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Xavies Piñan helped the player get up and apologised. Xavies Piñan kicked well hit freekick during the 33rd minute of the match. After 39 minutes Venezuela's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Hugo Ayala who took care of the corner kick. In the 41st minute Mexico were awarded a corner. Hugo Ayala went to the cornerflag to take it. The corner led Mexico's German Sol to fire away a dangerous shot which Baltasar Banzo despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. Leonardo Lleir showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Gauargi Molledo in the 42nd minute of the match. 44 minutes in the game, Saul Pietro fired away an excellent shot, which passed to the side of the right post without Baltasar Banzo having to interfere. Baltasar Banzo made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Severiano Beliran in the 44th minute of play. Af the end of the first half the score was 1-0. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Severiano Beliran stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. With a little luck, Mexico's Leonardo Lleir got control of the ball when Gauargi Molledo tried to sneak it across the goal line. Leonardo Lleir showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Estebano Junyent in the 62nd minute of the match. After a defensive mix-up in Venezuela's zone, Saul Pietro stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Baltasar Banzo came out of the goal and Saul Pietro tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Severiano Beliran's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Baltasar Banzo read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 65th minute of play. Mexico made a substitution. Ciro Munio replaced Severiano Beliran. Venezuela made a substitution. Beremundo Cazarez replaced Estebano Junyent. In the 77th minute, Ciro Munio left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Mexico fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 3-0. Mexico's Emilio Obeko was substituted for Saul Pietro. Xavies Piñan received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 82nd minute. Leonardo Lleir tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 84th minute Beremundo Cazarez shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Leonardo Lleir saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Ciro Munio's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Baltasar Banzo read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 86th minute of play. Gauargi Molledo could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 90th minute of the match, but Leonardo Lleir made a huge save. Mexico's Emilio Obeko got a good chance for a goal in the 93rd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. 95 minutes into the match, Gauargi Molledo notched a goal, 3-1, to the right of Mexico's Leonardo Lleir. Leonardo Lleir was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Venezuela's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
