With an extended leg and a bit of luck Feliberto Bartoli prevented the ball from getting in the gole. In the 26th match minute, Vélez Juniors was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Tomás Bordat to maneuver through the defense. Marcelo Cruz might have been able to make a better finish in the 34th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Feliberto Bartoli. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Marcelo Cruz ran back to his position shaking his head. In the 36th minute, Tomás Bordat hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Feliberto Bartoli didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Marcelo Cruz went, in the 38th minute, to the upper right corner, 1-0 was the resulting score. Raul Enetz kicked well hit freekick during the 42nd minute of the match. Anier Endira's late challenge caught a Vélez Juniors's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Anier Endira helped the player get up and apologised.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Santos Matteo to strike the kick off in the second half.
