The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Waldo Helton showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Evaristo Montenegro in the 4th minute of the match. Alvaro Rudolfo stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Reinaldo McCormick's shot from short distance in the 5th minute. In the 7th minute of the match Flame Throwers got a corner. Coritiba Foot Ball Club's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Mickey Velasco ran over to the corner to take the kick. Reinaldo McCormick blasted a shot towards the goal in the 8th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Alvaro Rudolfo having to make a save. Waldo Helton took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Marquez Padolles, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 10 minutes into the match, Fausto Romero notched a goal, 0-1, to the right of Flame Throwers's Waldo Helton. Waldo Helton was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. In the 17th match minute, Coritiba Foot Ball Club was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Fausto Romero to maneuver through the defense. In the 18th minute of the match, Reinaldo McCormick tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Alvaro Rudolfo saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. In the 19thth minute of the game Evaristo Montenegro who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Flame Throwers's Waldo Helton was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Waldo Helton showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Marquez Padolles, who was totally free with the ball in the 22nd minute. 24 minutes into the match, Coritiba Foot Ball Club's goalkeeper Alvaro Rudolfo had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Dave Paris. Marquez Padolles kicked well hit freekick during the 26th minute of the match. 28 minutes into the match, Flame Throwers's goal looked a bit too open when Marquez Padolles came free, but Waldo Helton reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Alvaro Rudolfo took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Dave Paris, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After 37 played minutes Flame Throwers got a freekick which was hit by Dave Paris. Ubaldo Egoitz charged in rather forcefully in the 43rd minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Ubaldo Egoitz the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. A collision led to Coritiba Foot Ball Club getting a freekick after 43 minutes play. Ubaldo Egoitz hit a great ball. Dave Paris could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 44th minute of the match, but Alvaro Rudolfo made a huge save. In the 45th minute, Ali Frye hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 46th minute, Evaristo Montenegro got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.
The wind increased when Marquez Padolles made the kick off in the second half. After some fancy dribbling in the 51st minute, Marquez Padolles managed to get in a good position for a shot. Coritiba Foot Ball Club's supporters rose to their feet, but Marquez Padolles was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Waldo Helton breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Marquez Padolles's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Waldo Helton read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 52nd minute of play. Artur Laguna made a great header on Coritiba Foot Ball Club's corner, it was just that Flame Throwers's Waldo Helton managed to reach the ball for a save. Marquez Padolles could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 56th minute of the match, but Waldo Helton made a huge save. After some fancy dribbling in the 58th minute, Evaristo Montenegro managed to get in a good position for a shot. Coritiba Foot Ball Club's supporters rose to their feet, but Evaristo Montenegro was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Waldo Helton breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Evaristo Montenegro struck a weak shot in the 60th minute. Waldo Helton didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Coritiba Foot Ball Club. Marquez Padolles in the 61stth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal. Without hesitation aimed to the right of Waldo Helton, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save. Marquez Padolles could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 63rd minute of the match, but Waldo Helton made a huge save. Coritiba Foot Ball Club's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Artur Laguna in the 68th minute. The corner led Coritiba Foot Ball Club's Daniel Garcia to fire away a dangerous shot which Waldo Helton despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Marquez Padolles in the 70th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Waldo Helton saved Flame Throwers from getting behind. 73 minutes into the match, Fausto Romero dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Waldo Helton, 0-2. Flame Throwers's Waldo Helton played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Marquez Padolles in the 76th minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Fausto Romero in the 81st minute of play forced Flame Throwers's goalkeeper Waldo Helton to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Waldo Helton took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Evaristo Montenegro, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. A collision led to Coritiba Foot Ball Club getting a freekick after 85 minutes play. Marquez Padolles hit a great ball. After a rather tough play, Coritiba Foot Ball Club's Artur Laguna got a free kick in the 87th minute. Marquez Padolles sent away a hard shot on goal in the 96th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance.
