With an extended leg and a bit of luck Árpád Mészáros prevented the ball from getting in the gole. An unexpectedly hard shot by Scotty Dietz in the 6th minute of play forced FC Budapest's goalkeeper Árpád Mészáros to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. FC Budapest's Árpád Mészáros proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 14th minute of the match, managed to save FC Budapest from getting a goal against them. 20 minutes into the match, Flame Throwers's goal looked a bit too open when Máté Polgár came free, but Waldo Helton reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 26 minutes into the match, FC Budapest's goalkeeper Árpád Mészáros had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Dave Paris. Dave Paris could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 26th minute of the match, but Árpád Mészáros made a huge save. Máté Polgár received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 28th minute. Waldo Helton tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 31 minutes into the match, Flame Throwers's goal looked a bit too open when Viktor Szőlősi came free, but Waldo Helton reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After 35 played minutes FC Budapest got a freekick which was hit by Mátyás Bánhegyi. In the 36th minute of the match Mickey Velasco shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Árpád Mészáros showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. Waldo Helton made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Máté Polgár in the 37th minute of play. Árpád Mészáros made a fantastic save in the 47th minute, when Brian Hyatt sent off a good shot on target. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Dávid Tóth to strike the kick off in the second half. With his leg Waldo Helton managed to avoid a goal in the 54thth minute, when FC Budapest's Dávid Tóth fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. Dávid Tóth who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 55thth minute tested the skills of Waldo Helton when he managed to save the team from getting behind. The audience thought a goal was coming when Viktor Szőlősi got free with Waldo Helton in the 64th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. 64 minutes into the match, Viktor Szőlősi had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Waldo Helton. Flame Throwers's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Viktor Szőlősi was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-2. In the 70th minute Reinaldo McCormick shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Árpád Mészáros saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Viktor Szőlősi came free with the goalkeeper in the 71st minute of the match, and shot straight on target. The shot was a little too simple and Waldo Helton could save by the left post. Árpád Mészáros showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Dave Paris, who was totally free with the ball in the 74th minute. In the 78th minute of the match, Dávid Tóth got a very nice opportunity to score, but Waldo Helton was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. Brian Hyatt struck a weak shot in the 79th minute. Árpád Mészáros didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Flame Throwers. Dávid Tóth could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 80th minute of the match, but Waldo Helton made a huge save. 86 minutes into the match, Flame Throwers's goal looked a bit too open when Máté Polgár came free, but Waldo Helton reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line.

The FC Budapest supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing FC Budapest would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
