Paraguay's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Agustín Álvarez was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-1. Cresenciano Secada fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 41st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Xove Tijerina having to interfere. After the first half Uruguay were leading 0-1. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Agustín Álvarez to strike the kick off in the second half. Xove Tijerina showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Matteo Mata, who was totally free with the ball in the 52nd minute. In the 53rd minute Matteo Mata shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Xove Tijerina saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Uruguay made a substitution. Rosario Cepa replaced Agustín Álvarez. Uruguay's attentive Cordario Vivero managed to snatch the ball when Denis Inestrosa made a throw-in in the 57th minute of the game. Xove Tijerina showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Guillelme Lomas in the 61st minute of the match. Xove Tijerina stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Matteo Mata's shot from short distance in the 62nd minute. Uruguay's Gitano Rubiero was substituted for Primitivo Grau. Uruguay's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Solustiano Blea in the 70th minute. Zemario Quer was in a good position and managed to take a shot, but he missed just to the outside of the post. If Rosario Cepa had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 75th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 81st minute, Rosario Cepa got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Pes Villarias in the 84th minute of play forced Uruguay's goalkeeper Xove Tijerina to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The supporters of Uruguay booed when Paraguay was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 86 match minutes in a wonderful position. Saúl Salcedo didn't get a good kick on the ball. Valentine Hernandez struck a weak shot in the 89th minute. Xove Tijerina didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Paraguay. 91 minutes into the match, Paraguay's goalkeeper Ariel Balboa had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Gitano Rubiero. With a little luck, Paraguay's Ariel Balboa got control of the ball when Rosario Cepa tried to sneak it across the goal line.
