Umbruso Salvadios took the ball and in the 22 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Xove Tijerina. Xove Tijerina dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 2-0. Ricardo Ceberiche showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Vitor Tejedor in the 28th minute of the match. Xzavier Palomarez kicked well hit freekick during the 28th minute of the match. After a defensive mix-up in Uruguay's zone, Alejandro Espina stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Xove Tijerina came out of the goal and Alejandro Espina tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After a rather tough play, Uruguay's Zuberoa Artiaga got a free kick in the 46th minute. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 3-0 at half-time.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Vitor Tejedor was the one to do the kick off. Xove Tijerina showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Alejandro Espina in the 52nd minute of the match. Alejandro Espina's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Xove Tijerina read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 55th minute of play. In the 67th minute, Vitor Tejedor got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Ecuador made a substitution. Flavio Cifuentes replaced Alejandro Espina. Ecuador's Xavier Zanetti was substituted for Urko Solbeida. Ecuador made a substitution. Lorenzo Acutain replaced Washington Piedrahita. Uruguay's Xove Tijerina played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Flavio Cifuentes in the 88th minute of play. The supporters of Uruguay booed when Ecuador was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 89 match minutes in a wonderful position. Angel Mena didn't get a good kick on the ball. When the referee blew the final whistle, Ecuador could leave the field as winners, despite Uruguay having more of the ball for most of the match.
