In the 17th match minute, Argentina was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Ceferino Nalo to maneuver through the defense. Calixto Inchaurdi made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Severo Rolado in the 20th minute of play. In the 21st minute Enrique Cassaretto shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Lev Yashin saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After 23 played minutes Peru got a freekick which was hit by Bard Bom. In the 24th minute the ball was on its way in behind Peru's goalkeeper Calixto Inchaurdi, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. 26 minutes into the match, Peru's goal looked a bit too open when Severo Rolado came free, but Calixto Inchaurdi reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

Argentina's Loco Durazno was substituted for Severo Rolado. Argentina's Armando Felipillo was substituted for Amado Arotza. The wind increased when Enrique Cassaretto made the kick off in the second half. Argentina's Loco Durazno got a good chance for a goal in the 59th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. 62 minutes into the game, Enrique Cassaretto cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-0. Lev Yashin was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Peru made a substitution. Tulio Andinyach replaced Marino Pacheco. Peru's Jorrin Briones was substituted for Enrique Cassaretto. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Jorrin Briones in the 68th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Lev Yashin saved Argentina from getting behind. In the 69th minute, Jorrin Briones made a precise shot to the right of Lev Yashin. Argentina's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 2-0. In the 80th minute Loco Durazno shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Calixto Inchaurdi saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Calixto Inchaurdi made a fantastic save in the 93rd minute, when Loco Durazno sent off a good shot on target. A collision led to Argentina getting a freekick after 94 minutes play. Fausto Santana hit a great ball. After 96 played minutes Argentina got a freekick which was hit by Paolo-César Maldini. Jorrin Briones scored 3-0 in the 97th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Lev Yashin, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Peru's fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
