The referee showed Scotty Stewart the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. The supporters of MTL Impact booed when Trois-Rivières FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 13 match minutes in a wonderful position. Scotty Stewart didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 30th minute, Leland Trejo hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Jourdain Cullen sent away a hard shot on goal in the 35th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Trois-Rivières FC's Jessie Rangel played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Jourdain Cullen in the 38th minute of play. 43 minutes into the game, Jourdain Cullen cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 3-0. Jessie Rangel was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 3-0 at half-time.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Mickey Picard to make the kick off. In the 58th minute Leland Trejo shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jessie Rangel saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Jessie Rangel came out of the goal in the 60th minute to try and stop a shot by MTL Impact's Leland Trejo. But to his dismay, Leland Trejo quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 4-0. In the 66th minute Alejandro Spears shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jessie Rangel saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 69th minute, Leland Trejo made a precise shot to the right of Jessie Rangel. Trois-Rivières FC's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 5-0. If Leland Trejo had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 73rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After 76th play minutes Raymond Bergman shot 5-1, a short shot which went by Tracy Bélanger and just under the crossbar into goal. A collision led to Trois-Rivières FC getting a freekick after 79 minutes play. Scotty Stewart hit a great ball. MTL Impact's Jourdain Cullen got a good chance for a goal in the 80th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. After 80 minutes, Jourdain Cullen mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the MTL Impact and the Trois-Rivières FC players grew even worse after the yellow card. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Ben Durham during the 85th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. 85 minutes into the game, one of Trois-Rivières FC:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty. Jessie Rangel took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Alejandro Spears, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The audience thought a goal was coming when Raymond Bergman got free with Tracy Bélanger in the 93rd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Jessie Rangel made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Leland Trejo in the 96th minute of play. MTL Impact's supporters were delighted with their team's performance and swarmed onto the pitch at the end of the match to celebrate the victory with the players.
