Laércio Cabral charged in rather forcefully in the 12th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Laércio Cabral the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Laércio Cabral hit a great freekick 12 minutes into the match. After a defensive mix-up in Flamengo's zone, Eduardo Brodel stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. João Carlos Barros came out of the goal and Eduardo Brodel tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Valdemar Lucas could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 16th minute of the match, but João Carlos Barros made a huge save. Gilberto Dionísio showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Dalmo Vidal in the 17th minute of the match. Flamengo's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Delfim Cruz in the 19th minute. After 20 played minutes HeBr United got a freekick which was hit by Leonel Lucas. In the 23rd minute, João Francisco Cruz hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. With his leg João Carlos Barros managed to avoid a goal in the 24thth minute, when HeBr United's Valdemar Lucas fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. Leonel Lucas kicked well hit freekick during the 28th minute of the match. After 31 minutes, Valdemar Lucas mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the HeBr United and the Flamengo players grew even worse after the yellow card. A collision led to HeBr United getting a freekick after 31 minutes play. Valdemar Lucas hit a great ball. Gilberto Dionísio took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Vivaldo Abraão, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Gilberto Dionísio showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Dalmo Vidal, who was totally free with the ball in the 39th minute. The supporters of HeBr United booed when Flamengo was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 40 match minutes in a wonderful position. Laércio Cabral didn't get a good kick on the ball. After a rather tough play, Flamengo's Vivaldo Abraão got a free kick in the 41st minute. 43 minutes into the game, HeBr United's Valdemar Lucas nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. João Carlos Barros made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 2-0. 46 minutes into the match, HeBr United's goal looked a bit too open when Dalmo Vidal came free, but Gilberto Dionísio reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Af the end of the first half the score was 2-0. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Dalmo Vidal to make the kick off. Valdemar Lucas received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 59th minute. João Carlos Barros tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 61stth minute of the game Valdemar Lucas who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Flamengo's João Carlos Barros was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. The audience thought a goal was coming when João Francisco Cruz got free with Gilberto Dionísio in the 65th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. After a defensive mix-up in HeBr United's zone, Vivaldo Abraão stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Gilberto Dionísio came out of the goal and Vivaldo Abraão tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Gilberto Dionísio showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Dalmo Vidal in the 76th minute of the match. Valdemar Lucas struck a weak shot in the 77th minute. João Carlos Barros didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for HeBr United. Adalberto Melo might have been able to make a better finish in the 78th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over João Carlos Barros. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Adalberto Melo ran back to his position shaking his head. Luiz Fabiano de Azevedo hit a great freekick 79 minutes into the match. When HeBr United's Valdemar Lucas in the 80th minute got a chance for a shot 80th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Flamengo's goalie prevented a goal. Gilberto Dionísio made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Dalmo Vidal in the 84th minute of play. HeBr United's supporters were delighted with their team's performance and swarmed onto the pitch at the end of the match to celebrate the victory with the players.
