The supporters of Il Catenaccio booed when Saldungaray FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 6 match minutes in a wonderful position. Karl-Heinz Rummenigge didn't get a good kick on the ball. 7 minutes into the game, Gabriel Gentza cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-1. Neto Volpi was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. 13 minutes into the match, Elpidio Perrando had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Neto Volpi. Saldungaray FC's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Elpidio Perrando was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-2. An unexpectedly hard shot by Gabriel Gentza in the 16th minute of play forced Saldungaray FC's goalkeeper Neto Volpi to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Neto Volpi made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Elpidio Perrando in the 18th minute of play. Justo Jeraldo showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, who was totally free with the ball in the 19th minute. Neto Volpi showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Benito Macerio in the 21st minute of the match. Benito Macerio scored 0-3 in the 27th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Neto Volpi, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. An unexpectedly hard shot by Alberto Macri in the 31st minute of play forced Saldungaray FC's goalkeeper Neto Volpi to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Neto Volpi showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Alberto Macri, who was totally free with the ball in the 31st minute. Özgür Akbulut sent away a hard shot on goal in the 33rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 43rd minute, Gabriel Gentza ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Neto Volpi was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-4. After the first half Il Catenaccio were leading 0-4. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

Saldungaray FC's Bo Ludas got a good chance for a goal in the 52nd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Justo Jeraldo showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, who was totally free with the ball in the 56th minute. After a rather tough play, Il Catenaccio's Ambrosio Cristofol got a free kick in the 57th minute. 59 minutes into the match, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge notched a goal, 1-4, to the right of Il Catenaccio's Justo Jeraldo. Justo Jeraldo was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. An unexpectedly hard shot by Karl-Heinz Rummenigge in the 80th minute of play forced Il Catenaccio's goalkeeper Justo Jeraldo to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Karl-Heinz Rummenigge received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 82nd minute. Justo Jeraldo tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Neto Volpi made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Benito Macerio in the 84th minute of play. Gabriel Gentza struck a weak shot in the 88th minute. Neto Volpi didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Il Catenaccio. After a rather tough play, Saldungaray FC's Filomeno Mino got a free kick in the 89th minute. The crowd rose to their feet as Gabriel Gentza kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Neto Volpi. That made the score 1-6 in the 90 minute of play. 93 minutes into the match, Benito Macerio dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Neto Volpi, 1-7. Neto Volpi made an important save on a dangerous shot by Elpidio Perrando in the 96th minute. Il Catenaccio played a much better game than Saldungaray FC and deserved their victory. The Saldungaray FC players were clearly disappointed as they left the ground.
