After 12 minutes, Joel Nowland mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Real Madrid and the Ambleside players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 15th match minute, Ambleside was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Marlon Brewer to maneuver through the defense. Dennis Warburton took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 17th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Brian Hallam . Franz Osbourn might have been able to make a better finish in the 44th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Brian Hallam . Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Franz Osbourn ran back to his position shaking his head. When the match had gone on for 47 minutes, Jack Beasley put it in 0-2 from a short distance just to the right of Benji Hodges. After the first half Ambleside were leading 0-2. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

After having played for 54 minutes, Franz Osbourn managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Real Madrid's supporters crossed their fingers, but Franz Osbourn was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Ambleside's Owen Kessler got a good chance for a goal in the 57th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar.
