A collision led to Shankill getting a freekick after 25 minutes play. Saoirse McStephen hit a great ball. Blathmac Ferguson made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Louie Morrison in the 39th minute of play. After 43 minutes, Basil McPaul mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Shankill and the Benmore players grew even worse after the yellow card. After 43 played minutes Shankill got a freekick which was hit by Basil McPaul. Disappointed in the 0-1 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

Keelin McCready fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 61st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Irwin McJohnny having to interfere. Bil Ferguson kicked well hit freekick during the 72nd minute of the match. After some fancy dribbling in the 76th minute, Baine Moran managed to get in a good position for a shot. Benmore's supporters rose to their feet, but Baine Moran was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Irwin McJohnny breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Benmore's supporters were very happy and cheered loudly because their team had won after a very close match.
