Hans-Martin Urban hit a great freekick 17 minutes into the match. Tim Eisenblätter showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Emiliano Spickenreither, who was totally free with the ball in the 25th minute. In the 29th minute Timo Hoppenstedt shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Gerrit Zurcher saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Winfried Mouratidis recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 32nd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Wilfried Mademann sent away a hard shot on goal in the 36th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Bannemin's Gerrit Zurcher proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 38th minute of the match, managed to save Bannemin from getting a goal against them. Wilfried Mademann's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Gerrit Zurcher read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 44th minute of play. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

When Wilfried Mademann came up free with the goalie in the 52nd minute, the hoffenheim fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Wilfried Mademann couldn't finish the play. Gerrit Zurcher stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Wilfried Mademann's shot from short distance in the 59th minute. If Wilfried Mademann had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 60th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. A collision led to Bannemin getting a freekick after 76 minutes play. Achim Neuschwander hit a great ball. In the 78th match minute, Bannemin was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Veit Wojewski to maneuver through the defense. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Felix Kitzmann in the 79th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Gerrit Zurcher prevented the ball from getting in the gole. After some careless play in the Bannemin defense, Felix Kitzmann kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Gerrit Zurcher. The Bannemin fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Gerrit Zurcher should have stopped the shot. Tim Eisenblätter took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Emiliano Spickenreither, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. hoffenheim's supporters were delighted with their team's performance and swarmed onto the pitch at the end of the match to celebrate the victory with the players.
