Stephen Gerner charged in rather forcefully in the 22nd minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. Marco Obrecht made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Kilian Mathieu in the 31st minute of play. Kilian Mathieu fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 36th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Marco Obrecht having to interfere. After a defensive mix-up in INTERNAZIONALE . FC's zone, Kilian Mathieu stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Marco Obrecht came out of the goal and Kilian Mathieu tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Jonathan Grafs short, quick shot in the 45thth minute got Marco Obrecht to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. An unexpectedly hard shot by Kilian Mathieu in the 47th minute of play forced INTERNAZIONALE . FC's goalkeeper Marco Obrecht to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Af the end of the first half the score was 1-0. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Davide Huber was the one to do the kick off.
