BiBa's Kai-Uwe Bartek played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Eduard Säuml in the 14th minute of play. When Klaus Beudel fell near the penalty area in the 17th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Galatasaray SK's protests and gave Klaus Beudel a yellow card for diving instead. In the 17th minute, Klaus Beudel hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The crowd rose to their feet as BiBa's Juancho Bonachea slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Gunnar Taevere. That made the score 1-0 after 18 minutes of play. Kai-Uwe Bartek showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Klaus Beudel in the 21st minute of the match. In the 23rd minute Tomé Azevedo shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Gunnar Taevere saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. When BiBa's Tomé Azevedo, in the 24th minute, received a pass right in front of the net, it looked like a certain goal, but his shot went outside. A wasted opportunity for BiBa.
