Altay's supporters crossed their fingers, but Ali Artan was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Saruhan Başbuğoğlu blasted a shot towards the goal in the 39th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Nuratay Akşit having to make a save. The referee gave İZMİT SK a penalty, 44 minutes into the game. The penalty shot was made by Halil Can Gezer, who made a well placed shot into the net to the right of Altay's Cláudio Guerra. 2-1.
