The corner led U21 United States's Shane Smiley to fire away a dangerous shot which Gigi Buffon despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. U21 United States were awarded a corner in the 17th minute after U21 Poland's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Shane Smiley took the corner. Shane Smiley made a great header on U21 United States's corner, it was just that U21 Poland's Gigi Buffon managed to reach the ball for a save. U21 United States's Levon Sarkisyan played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Witold Bycofski in the 21st minute of play. 21 minutes into the match, U21 United States's goal looked a bit too open when Witold Bycofski came free, but Levon Sarkisyan reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Levon Sarkisyan made an important save on a dangerous shot by Wit Chuchro in the 24th minute. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Gigi Buffon prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Denver Lund lost his temper 40 minutes into the game and shoved another player to the ground. He was immediately shown a red card. Witold Bycofski sent away a hard shot on goal in the 43rd minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Levon Sarkisyan made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Witold Bycofski in the 43rd minute of play. Phillip Piątek kicked well hit freekick during the 45th minute of the match. After 46 minutes, Kip Galvan mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the U21 United States and the U21 Poland players grew even worse after the yellow card. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 1-0 at half-time.
When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Brock Friend made a kick off. Many of U21 United States's supporters were seen to leave the ground early as it became clear their team was going to lose. U21 United States may have spent more time on the ball, but U21 Poland were more willing to take their chances and they walked away with the win.
