Chile's Bautista Marcó was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Venancio Dolfo in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. With a little luck, Chile's Darío Friederichs got control of the ball when Julien Zbydniowski tried to sneak it across the goal line. In the 27th minute of the match Mexico got a corner. Chile's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Gareth Avalos ran over to the corner to take the kick. A well-hit corner resulted in Geronimo Salomone heading the ball towards the goal, but to his dismay he misdirected it and missed the goal completely. If Geronimo Salomone had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 30th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Darío Friederichs made an important save on a dangerous shot by Julien Zbydniowski in the 34th minute. After 35 played minutes Chile got a freekick which was hit by Adalberto Velarde. 36 minutes into the match, Chile's goal looked a bit too open when Geronimo Salomone came free, but Darío Friederichs reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Darío Friederichs took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Geronimo Salomone, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Mexico's Venancio Dolfo proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 54th minute of the match, managed to save Mexico from getting a goal against them. Chile's Darío Friederichs played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Geronimo Salomone in the 55th minute of play. 1-0 became the score in the 58th minute when Geronimo Salomone elegantly shot the ball into goal just under the crossbar. Chile made a substitution. Felipe Báez replaced Abundio Manzano. Chile's Alfonso Goicoechea was substituted for Adalberto Velarde. Mexico made a substitution. Benjamin Mikolas replaced Geronimo Salomone. In the 63rd minute Thomas Cochrane shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Venancio Dolfo saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Chile's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Vergaray Azteca was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 3-0. Mexico's supporters were highly satisfied with the result. They cheered their team of the pitch, having watched them win a very even match.
