USA's Matthew Benjamin played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Alejandro Espina in the 10th minute of play. Pedro Velasco got a throw-in 13 minutes in the game and the ball was received by Alejandro Espina. After a rather tough play, Ecuador's Intriago Herquinigo got a free kick in the 22nd minute. Ricardo Ceberiche came out of the goal in the 23rd minute to try and stop a shot by USA's Nathaniel Burnett. But to his dismay, Nathaniel Burnett quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-0. 30 minutes into the match, Ecuador's goal looked a bit too open when Nathaniel Burnett came free, but Ricardo Ceberiche reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. A collision led to Ecuador getting a freekick after 42 minutes play. Intriago Herquinigo hit a great ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Tony Pacheco in the 43rd minute of play forced Ecuador's goalkeeper Ricardo Ceberiche to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Umbruso Salvadios kicked well hit freekick during the 47th minute of the match.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Nathaniel Burnett made a kick off. In the 54thth minute of the game Nathaniel Burnett who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Ecuador's Ricardo Ceberiche was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Ecuador's Xaiver Jacolet was substituted for Lorenzo Acutain. Flavio Cifuentes took the ball and in the 70 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Matthew Benjamin. Matthew Benjamin dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-1. After a rather tough play, USA's Marcelo Ascencio got a free kick in the 75th minute. 78 minutes had been played when some careless play by Ecuador's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Derek Henderson was slow to take the kick. During this time USA's players had a chance to rest. The corner ended in Derek Henderson almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but Ecuador's Ricardo Ceberiche did a great save. In the 79th minute Kerry Sellers shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Ricardo Ceberiche saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 81st minute, Flavio Cifuentes ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Matthew Benjamin was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-2. Derek Henderson took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 86th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Ricardo Ceberiche. Ecuador's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. A throw-in in the 90th minute of the game was made by Marcelo Ascencio with William Kerns as target, who quickly passed the ball forward. Flavio Cifuentes blasted a shot towards the goal in the 92nd minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Matthew Benjamin having to make a save. An unexpectedly hard shot by Flavio Cifuentes in the 92nd minute of play forced USA's goalkeeper Matthew Benjamin to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After some careless play in the USA defense, Flavio Cifuentes kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Matthew Benjamin. The USA fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Matthew Benjamin should have stopped the shot. The Ecuador players were relieved to hear the final whistle blow to end the match. The away crowd was happy to see their team win after a very tight game.
