Andries Salms showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Jimmy Gyselinckx in the 3rd minute of the match. After a defensive mix-up in KAA GENT's zone, André Johnsson stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Ritchie Kest came out of the goal and André Johnsson tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. 8 minutes into the match, Sporting Club Gent's goal looked a bit too open when Jimmy Gyselinckx came free, but Andries Salms reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 11 minutes into the match, KAA GENT's goal looked a bit too open when André Johnsson came free, but Ritchie Kest reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. A collision led to KAA GENT getting a freekick after 12 minutes play. Wouter De Mulder hit a great ball. After 13 minutes, Cui Lin Zhou mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Sporting Club Gent and the KAA GENT players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 14th match minute, Sporting Club Gent was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Cui Lin Zhou to maneuver through the defense. Sporting Club Gent's Andries Salms played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Jimmy Gyselinckx in the 17th minute of play. Andries Salms took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Herald De Metser, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. André Johnsson recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 21st minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. 23 minutes into the match, Sporting Club Gent's André Johnsson sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Ritchie Kest narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Tobias Blixt received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 27th minute. Ritchie Kest tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Wouter De Mulder charged in rather forcefully in the 37th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Wouter De Mulder the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After 38 played minutes KAA GENT got a freekick which was hit by Wouter De Mulder. In the 39th minute, Jimmy Gyselinckx hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 41st minute, Jimmy Gyselinckx left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The KAA GENT fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-1. Andries Salms made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Herald De Metser in the 45th minute of play. In the 45th minute, Bernard Oosters hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After the first half KAA GENT were leading 0-2. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell André Johnsson to make the kick off. Andries Salms made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Herald De Metser in the 60th minute of play. Jimmy Gyselinckx came free with the goalkeeper in the 75th minute of the match, and shot straight on target. The shot was a little too simple and Andries Salms could save by the left post. Sporting Club Gent's Andries Salms proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 78th minute of the match, managed to save Sporting Club Gent from getting a goal against them. Ritchie Kest showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from André Johnsson, who was totally free with the ball in the 88th minute. After a rather tough play, Sporting Club Gent's Kajetan Laba got a free kick in the 89th minute. André Johnsson struck a weak shot in the 93rd minute. Ritchie Kest didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Sporting Club Gent. In the 97th match minute, Sporting Club Gent was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Kajetan Laba to maneuver through the defense. KAA GENT were delighted with the way they had won the match. They had held their defensive line well and made the most of their chances, to claim a victory over Sporting Club Gent's much stronger midfield.
