Herbjörn Garpsson was a little too slow when Froilan Reyes got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 15th minute. The score was now 3-0. Froilan Reyes might have been able to make a better finish in the 19th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Herbjörn Garpsson. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Froilan Reyes ran back to his position shaking his head. 25 minutes into the match, Froilan Reyes notched a goal, 4-0, to the right of U21 Iceland's Herbjörn Garpsson. Herbjörn Garpsson was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Herbjörn Garpsson showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Froilan Reyes, who was totally free with the ball in the 28th minute. After a rather tough play, U21 Spain's Iratze Roca got a free kick in the 28th minute. In the 30th minute, Froilan Reyes left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The U21 Spain fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 5-0. Herbjörn Garpsson took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Froilan Reyes, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After 46 minutes of play, U21 Spain's Froilan Reyes made it 6-0 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Herbjörn Garpsson was left in no man's land by his defense there! When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 6-0.

After 50 played minutes U21 Iceland got a freekick which was hit by Rafnar Þorgerisson. In the 52ndth minute of the game Coronel Castro who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but U21 Iceland's Herbjörn Garpsson was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Froilan Reyes's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Herbjörn Garpsson read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 56th minute of play. The supporters of U21 Spain booed when U21 Iceland was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 63 match minutes in a wonderful position. Uni Gunnarsson didn't get a good kick on the ball. U21 Spain made a substitution. Montay Guijarro replaced Damaso Estruch. In the 65th minute the ball was on its way in behind U21 Iceland's goalkeeper Herbjörn Garpsson, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. 66 minutes into the match, U21 Spain's Froilan Reyes sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Herbjörn Garpsson narrowly saved just below the crossbar. In the 68th minute Froilan Reyes shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Herbjörn Garpsson saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The player immediately received a yellow card. Herbjörn Garpsson made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Froilan Reyes in the 76th minute of play. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Froilan Reyes in the 83rd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Herbjörn Garpsson saved U21 Iceland from getting behind. Herbjörn Garpsson stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Froilan Reyes's shot from short distance in the 84th minute. After 86 minutes of play, U21 Spain's Coronel Castro made it 9-0 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Herbjörn Garpsson was left in no man's land by his defense there! Froilan Reyes's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Herbjörn Garpsson read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 89th minute of play. After some fancy dribbling in the 91st minute, Coronel Castro managed to get in a good position for a shot. U21 Spain's supporters rose to their feet, but Coronel Castro was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Herbjörn Garpsson breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. If Parmes Ketilsson had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 95th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. There were very few away supporters still in the ground by the end of the match. Most of them had left early, disgusted by the way their team had been torn apart. U21 Spain fully deserved thier win.
