Seating: 2369, VIP seats: 206) It was fairly windy and cold on the field when Julião Vilanova kicked off to start the match. U21 Portugal's David Vilalobos played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Martin Rutsch in the 3rd minute of play. After a rather tough play, U21 Switzerland's Harold Tosi got a free kick in the 6th minute. With a little luck, U21 Switzerland's Alex Méret got control of the ball when António Sobral tried to sneak it across the goal line. Ramiro Quintanilha fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 9th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Alex Méret having to interfere. 14 minutes into the match, Julião Vilanova dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Alex Méret, 1-0. A collision led to U21 Switzerland getting a freekick after 20 minutes play. Martin Rutsch hit a great ball. A collision led to U21 Portugal getting a freekick after 22 minutes play. Idalécio Rangel hit a great ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Petteri Nummelin in the 26th minute of play forced U21 Portugal's goalkeeper David Vilalobos to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. David Vilalobos made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Martin Rutsch in the 28th minute of play. David Vilalobos took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Harold Tosi, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 35th minute Harold Tosi shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but David Vilalobos saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Afonso Granja hit a great freekick 36 minutes into the match. U21 Portugal's David Vilalobos played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Martin Rutsch in the 41st minute of play. In the 45th minute, Harold Tosi got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. 46 minutes into the game, Dominik Kneubühler was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. U21 Switzerland's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave U21 Portugal the free kick.
An unexpectedly hard shot by Ramiro Quintanilha in the 54th minute of play forced U21 Switzerland's goalkeeper Alex Méret to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Alex Méret showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Julião Vilanova, who was totally free with the ball in the 57th minute. Luc Lemann's late challenge caught a U21 Portugal's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Luc Lemann helped the player get up and apologised. 59 minutes into the match, U21 Switzerland's goal looked a bit too open when Julião Vilanova came free, but Alex Méret reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. U21 Portugal were furious when Afonso Granja was red carded, 66 minutes into the game, but the referee dismissed their protests. The supporters of U21 Switzerland booed when U21 Portugal was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 67 match minutes in a wonderful position. Afonso Granja didn't get a good kick on the ball. Kalidou Koulibaly recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 67th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Tomás Horta in the 70th minute of play forced U21 Switzerland's goalkeeper Alex Méret to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The audience thought a goal was coming when Michel Drechsler got free with David Vilalobos in the 74th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Alex Méret made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Ramiro Quintanilha in the 77th minute of play. 78 minutes into the match, U21 Switzerland's goal looked a bit too open when António Sobral came free, but Alex Méret reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 78th minute, António Sobral left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The U21 Portugal fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 2-0. U21 Portugal's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Idalécio Rangel in the 82nd minute. The corner ended in Veríssimo Maltez almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but U21 Switzerland's Alex Méret did a great save. David Vilalobos made an important save on a dangerous shot by Harold Tosi in the 86th minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Martin Rutsch in the 87th minute of play forced U21 Portugal's goalkeeper David Vilalobos to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. David Vilalobos took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Michel Drechsler, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. U21 Portugal's fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
