After a rather tough play, U21 Costa Rica's Rogelio Leiton got a free kick in the 11th minute. In the 11th minute of the match Guib Maysonet sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Darryl Parker skillfully saved the ball. Jim Bullard took the ball and in the 14 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Darryl Parker. Darryl Parker dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-2. Rolando Fonseca fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 22nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Juan Oblak having to interfere. In the 32nd minute, Guib Maysonet hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. U21 Costa Rica's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Raul Heredia in the 34th minute. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Jim Bullard in the 36th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Darryl Parker saved U21 Costa Rica from getting behind. 41 minutes into the game, Oriol Loyola cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-3. Darryl Parker was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. U21 Costa Rica's Darryl Parker played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Jim Bullard in the 46th minute of play. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-3 lead.

Darryl Parker took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Jim Bullard, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The corner ended in Guib Maysonet almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but U21 Costa Rica's Darryl Parker did a great save. Oriol Loyola hit a great freekick 65 minutes into the match. Edgardo Cosca succeeded to score despite a near miss that spronge from right pole into the goal to 0-4 in the 68th playminute. Rafa Barrantes was astounded when the referee showed him the red card after a seemingly innocent challenge, 77 minutes into the match. After 77 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for U21 Costa Rica! 86 minutes into the match, U21 Costa Rica's goal looked a bit too open when Edgardo Cosca came free, but Darryl Parker reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Darryl Parker made a fantastic save in the 89th minute, when Oriol Loyola sent off a good shot on target. The audience thought a goal was coming when Oriol Loyola got free with Darryl Parker in the 94th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. The away crowd were delighted with the way their team had played and cheered loudly when the final whistle sounded. U21 Colombia walked away with the win, even though the match was close until the end.
