The supporters of U21 Costa Rica booed when U21 Georgia was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 11 match minutes in a wonderful position. Merdan Abesadze didn't get a good kick on the ball. 14 minutes into the game, Carlos Guardia was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. U21 Costa Rica's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave U21 Georgia the free kick. Donald Villegas fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 39th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Taka Levidze having to interfere. Merdan Abesadzes short, quick shot in the 44thth minute got Lucas Loaiza to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. The first half was very even, with the score at 1-1 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

The wind increased when Merdan Abesadze made the kick off in the second half. 56 minutes into the match, U21 Georgia's Gocha Torotadze sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Lucas Loaiza narrowly saved just below the crossbar. In the 62ndth minute of the game Gocha Torotadze who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but U21 Costa Rica's Lucas Loaiza was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Merdan Abesadze kicked well hit freekick during the 66th minute of the match. U21 Georgia made a substitution. Emir Torvinadze replaced Merdan Abesadze. A collision led to U21 Georgia getting a freekick after 67 minutes play. Merdan Abesadze hit a great ball. 68 minutes into the game, Orlando Viquez was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Taka Levidze showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Orlando Viquez in the 78th minute of the match. Lucas Loaiza came out of the goal in the 81st minute to try and stop a shot by U21 Georgia's Gocha Torotadze. But to his dismay, Gocha Torotadze quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 2-1. In the 85th minute Gocha Torotadze shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Lucas Loaiza saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. It seemed to be an obvious goal in the 87th minute, but Taka Levidze got his fingers on the ball or the save, leaving U21 Georgia hanging dry this time. If Gocha Torotadze had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 93rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After 94 played minutes U21 Georgia got a freekick which was hit by Valeri Aragvsky. U21 Costa Rica's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
