Aktuğ Tuncal was slow to take the kick. During this time U21 Turkey's players had a chance to rest. A nice corner shot did that Aktuğ Tuncal got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Zsolt Horváth quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. In the 13th minute, Emrah Newell ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Zsolt Horváth was frozen by the shot and now it was 2-0. In the last second Zsolt Horváth throw himself and got hold of the ball when Emrah Newell in the 18thth minute from his position got away a shot towards the right post. Zsolt Horváth showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Emrah Newell in the 19th minute of the match. 21 minutes into the game, Ottó Kállay was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. U21 Hungary's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave U21 Turkey the free kick. The supporters of U21 Turkey booed when U21 Hungary was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 21 match minutes in a wonderful position. Ottó Kállay didn't get a good kick on the ball. Ákos Petres struck a weak shot in the 28th minute. Cüneyt Mutlu didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for U21 Hungary. Ottó Kállay made in the 31st minute of the game a throw-in that took a bad bounce and was taken care of by U21 Turkey's Kutlay Varan. The audience was convinced that Jean-Claude van Dam's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Cüneyt Mutlu was relentless in the 36th minute of the game. U21 Hungary's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Ede Szakály in the 37th minute. The corner led to U21 Hungary's Jean-Claude van Dam getting away a dangerous shot that went just outside the goal. 40 minutes into the match, U21 Hungary's goalkeeper Zsolt Horváth had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Ahmet Hakan Zeynur. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 2-0.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Jean-Claude van Dam to strike the kick off in the second half. Zsolt Horváth made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Ahmet Hakan Zeynur in the 54th minute of play. 55 minutes into the match, U21 Hungary's goal looked a bit too open when Ahmet Hakan Zeynur came free, but Zsolt Horváth reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. U21 Turkey's Semih Tekay was substituted for Emrah Newell. Ali Mutu made in the 57th minute of the game a throw-in that took a bad bounce and was taken care of by U21 Hungary's Ede Szakály. Zsolt Horváth took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Ahmet Hakan Zeynur, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Zsolt Horváth showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Semih Tekay, who was totally free with the ball in the 91st minute. Semih Tekay scored 3-0 in the 91st match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Zsolt Horváth, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. U21 Hungary's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
