With an extended leg and a bit of luck Heman Mahal prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Anuranjita Khandelwal sent away a hard shot on goal in the 21st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Alexander Mejia came out of the goal in the 35th minute to try and stop a shot by India's Ili Dwivedi. But to his dismay, Ili Dwivedi quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-1. The audience was convinced that Mauricio Hidalgo's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Heman Mahal was relentless in the 38th minute of the game. After a rather tough play, India's Radhakrishna Johl got a free kick in the 40th minute. When the match clock showed 84 minutes, the score became 3-1 when Ronald Mondragon sped through India's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Heman Mahal. In the 91st minute the ball was on its way in behind Guatemala's goalkeeper Alexander Mejia, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. The referee blew his whistle, and the match came to a close. The players exchanged shirts and headed down the tunnel. The Guatemala fans cheered their team off the field, for while India had put up a good fight, they were unable to come out of the game with any points to show for their effort.
