Karel Prokůpek took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Recep Vatansever, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. With a little luck, Czech Republic's Karel Prokůpek got control of the ball when Sid Palmer tried to sneak it across the goal line. In the 13th minute, Recep Vatansever reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Karel Prokůpek. The goal made the score 1-0. Trey Carlick showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Pavel Borovský in the 17th minute of the match. Czech Republic's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Miloš Bartůněk in the 19th minute. The corner ended in Miloš Bartůněk almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but Luxembourg's Trey Carlick did a great save. 23 minutes into the match, Luxembourg's goal looked a bit too open when Karel Tkadlec came free, but Trey Carlick reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 28th minute Pavel Borovský shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Trey Carlick saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Czech Republic's Karel Prokůpek played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Recep Vatansever in the 33rd minute of play. In the 38th minute Sid Palmer shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Karel Prokůpek saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Čestmír Miksa struck a weak shot in the 41st minute. Trey Carlick didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Czech Republic. Af the end of the first half the score was 2-1. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

In the 94th minute of the match Luxembourg got a corner. Czech Republic's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. The Czech Republic supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Czech Republic would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
