This one's got the internet stumped. The main problem here is: when do you stick the value in the brackets into the equation: Before, or after the division is made?
The answers either 2 or 288. Both sides have merit. Enjoy your flame wa- i mean debate :P.

My first post is an incorrect way to do the equation. This one is correct. Division and Multiplication are of the same weight, so you should simply function them in order from left to right, for example 6÷2×3 = 9, not 1. Case closed.

But, because the equation is poorly formed, there is ambiguity, hence there not being a 'correct' answer.
The equation should be written as either,
(48/2)(9+3) = ?
or
48 / (2(9+3)) = ?
There is no middle ground.
