Player Sentimentality

Hi All,

Bit of a stupid conundrum but hey ho.

I signed a player when he was 19 years old, have trained him up and he's now 28. I like to think he's a pretty tidy little player with 70 skill balls. I'm torn between selling him for a large uplift (for the benefit of the team, and given speed/stamina will drop off soon) and letting him retire at the club.

A question for you all: have you ever kept a player and let them retire at your club out of sentiment? Or is it best to just sell quickly (basically rip off the bandaid and suck up the pain) and cash in?

Would be interested to hear your thoughts.

Best,

Hi!

It will depend on many aspects, your current economy, how much money you could get from the sale of that player, if obtaining the money from the sale you can obtain any sports benefit or you will simply have the money devaluing in cash.

I don't particularly think it's ridiculous to keep a player if you appreciate it, in the end this is a game, and we give the value of things ourselves. An in-game trophy is nothing more than a .jpg in the trophy case.

I only play under-18 except my first 2 seasons, I had a player that I wanted to retire at my club but he was close to bankruptcy and I sold him. Then I wanted to recover it but the player ended up in an inactive team and there he retired, I regretted it for a long time 😭😭😭

If you turn him in to a coach he can benefit your team until he's 147 years old!

I bought this guy as a 19-year-old. Now's he's not good enough for the team, but I refuse to sell him because of sentimentality. He's been my top scorer for 10 seasons..

Thanks for the input, guys! Yeah, we do attach value to things in our way, right? That has given me something to think about :)

I didn't know coaches stuck around until 147 years old!
