Hi All,
Why do people use 5D in a line to defend against wingers?
I notice that after the wing goes through the first D, the next D doesn't have enough time to get to the W to avoid the cross.
Am I missing something?
THanks,

THanks,
5 defenders is countering 2 wingers. You basicly betting to counter all types of wingplays, not only a single winger.

I see.... I'm trying to find a way to have 2 defenders trying to tackle a winger.
With all in one line, after the winger pass the first open D, the winger is gone.

Try a midfeilder on the same side. . Remember IF you cover both aides you will be very weak vs shortpasses . So be sure that they will use wingplay: with a wide defence:)(you Gould go with wide defeencive midfeild in only 1 side IF you know where they will attack)

It has many pros but some objetives of 5-man def. line:
*narrowing space for winger(s)
*opponent could change side of wingers, so it is universal
*when one defender fails with tackle, then there is a "backup" defender near
And if I look at my 5 man defensive line games, opponent winger does not actually get away that easily - sometimes yeah, but not all the time. And sometimes midfielders do not pass to winger if they are marked properly. And sometimes when "backup" defender gets close to winger, he passes back to midfield or behaves weidly..
Just some of my thoughts...
