So it's that time of the year, when we have to choose between 300.000 euro and 2 players aged 21, which would most likely come early-maxed (especially in medium or good teams).
What do you choose and why?
PS: I'm curious if Crew has any stats as to what managers chose... because my impression is that almost all chose the money if for no other reason than the fact that loyals are so poor or early-maxed. And it's not the money but the dissapointment of seeing such poor players being created...

Re: Money vs Loyals - what & why?

I always go for the loyal players, unless there's an urgent need to get more money to balance the season's budget
I'm also planning to have a hockey team with only loyal players in the roster
why go for loyal players you ask?
because for me, the gambling factor between a loyal and training a youth is (almost) the same
also I'm just a casual player in MZ and that means that I have the luxury of "underachieving"

well, i'd thought of something similar.
the thing about loyal players is,if u chance upon a kinda 'monster' player even after 10-15 players, then the money lost until u chanced upon that monster player is much lesser than the money you'd have needed to buy such a player in the market !
but then, it has its own drawbacks too - firstly, you cannot sell this monster player, which means u will be 'rewarded' for this player only 'playing wise', and not money wise.
secondly, if you will be rewarded only playing wise (that is, he will perform well in matches, which will boost ur team's performances), then you ought to be a competitive side, else these 'playing wise' benefits will not really benefit u at all.

Loyals. I am realistic, they are going to be c.r.a.p.
But I need players for my U23 team, and they are filling that role nicely. I view these players are loan subjects, since I fire them after they are too old to participate at U23 level. Basically, these loan subjects mean I can sell other U23 players.

Loyals. I would rather take the ultra small chance on getting a top-tier loyal, than save up 5+ seasons to get a guaranteed subtop-tier player with inflated salary demands.

... also with the introduction of achievements, I feel that money in MZ has been inflated so more of an argument for loyals.

Never thought of it this way but you might actually be right! Instead of you taking a chance with a player, to have the system max it a few balls later, you face the system directly and maybe you get lucky.
On the other hand, since my budget is tighter as pair of 1-size-smaller shorts, I have to go for the money this time and take my cahnces next time.

^ I agree with the above too.
Usually the maxing are clear and potential is shown with the loyal players. You can usually just discard right then and there with out living with the “hope” of becoming great in 4 seasons as you can with youth.

partial on intel for the first one
not sure about maxings yet (non CM)
a bit off topic:
CREW should add some achievements about loyal players
ie.
a) loyalty over money -> pick loyals instead of money only for tour award
b) home town club comes first -> play a game with 10/11 loyal players on the line up
c) lower tier of b) -> play with 6 loyals on the line up
etc
:P

Both mine had 44 balls in total, and was maxed in everything. Neither had anything past 7 balls. A complete and utter joke. Not even good enough for my weak U21 team.. I gave them the bucket within 5 seconds.
I wasn't looking for something amazing, but atleast one player that wasn't absolutely crap. MZ failed to deliver, yet again. I never was good in lottery.
I get that maxings are likely to occur, but 44 balls??? :O
What kind of simulated training did they get? Without a coach? Occasionally injured for 45 days with a broken leg?

At his age, probably the best you can hope for is two balls in a TC and a max of 3 per season. So, in brief, you would get to 10 (if you get there!) in a minimum of 4 seasons, more likely 5 or even 6!
I see he has a salary of 9,2k euro, which would make it 600k euro salaries, plus at least that for TCs in this time. You can find a good keeper for 1M+ euro so I don't know if it's worth the time and the risk!

I go for loyals in hockey and money in football, the few times I choose loyals in football I fired them instantly but in hockey is a different story, I get some good players from time to time and you get 3 loyals, so the chances of getting a good player are better.
Anyway, got 3 in hockey, fired 2 and kept one which I sent to TC

You can't find a 10 stam 9 PI keeper for that much. Stuff it I'm taking the risk. I just sold up, 1 mil doesn't seem that much especially since it over the span of a few seasons.

I tried loyals for 2 occasions when they were introduced but always got relatively useless players with some early maxings, so switched to money ever since.

Are there any limitations on loyal players, with regards to how many you have had previously etc?
Just last time I selected loyal players as a reward, none ever came through..

all limitations on loyal players have been lifted some seasons ago
you can have as many as you want

I choose money,
simple calculation
I have gotten so far ~8 loyal players only one was good.
On the other hand every time I take the money I get additional 300.000€
8*300.000€ = 2.4 Mio €
and for 2.4 Mio € I can buy an top U23 player.

loyals are not meant to be top tier or super star players
and like almost everything in MZ, they are subject of the RNGods

Money. Loyals don't make sense unless you're a given a 70-80% chance of landing a national team quality player. Otherwise it doesn't make sense. Why would anyone ever pick loyals when you could land average to very very bad players you can't even sell when you could have had another 300k to balance the books before the start of a new season. That money adds up.

Loyal players are not meant to be superstars, some still are unfortunately but as I see it..they are suppose to help new teams, U-teams and small community teams to fill the gaps in team! And thats it!

maxed only in heading

Re: Money vs Loyals - what & why?

I just picked up and fired my loyal players from the World Cup competition. Waited til today because I didn't want to pay salary for last week if I did decide to keep any of them. I think my biggest problem with loyals is that they usually come (at least so far in my experience) maxed in speed and stamina and one of those is usually at a level where most teams would not have kept them past the youth level.
All four of the players had one of those skills maxed at a 6 or 7. My current 21 year olds are all better than that with lower salaries, so didn't see any reason to keep them. Plus rather than being trained in useful ways - two seemed to have focused on aerial passing at the expense of anything else.

I never thought I would live the day but out of 6 loyals received as prize in the WC predictions competition, I could have kept two. However, I decided to keep only 1, but only because I am not playing competitive anymore:
