from the manual - 'Ball Control: Players with good Ball Control are more likely to trap incoming passes and are less likely to lose possession once they have the ball at their feet.'

from another source - another source (but i dont know how good it stands now since i've seen managers say that this was with regards to the previous SIM) - http://www.mentaldog.com/mz/player_skills.htm

from theloyalone :P - the importance of BC varies from position to position.

for strikers, it's the most important skill alongside shooting and speed. so, try and settle for not less than 7 BC for your strikers.

for midfielders, i aint sure really. maybe 6 might be the least you could settle for, tho i'd recommend that 7-8 alteast would be fine.

for defenders, you could relax it upto a minimum of 5-6.

but again, remember one thing. it also depends on what level you're competing. at a very high level,a player would settle for a defender with 4-5 BC, but at your level, if that player's too good at other skills, he might be an asset for your team.

from thelogicalone - whatever i've said above will go all go into the bin when the match starts and the only and only thing that will matter is whether the SIM's taken a liking to your team or not. if it has, then you could expect - your 0 BC players too to control better than ronaldo, 10 BC players to have the ball snatched from them everytime, 10 PI players to make backpasses (all the way back to the midfield xD) when one-on-one with the keeper, and a lot more (the list is endless...) :P

P.S.- oh, and something's new started now. the striker goes one-on-one with the keeper, passes it all the way to the winger, then the winger controls it and takes it all the way back to the midfield-line, and i keep wondering how these morons can resort to such 'unlawfulness' during an NT match LMFAO :S:O:D

+ to me it seems players with higher ball control get ball "under their control" more faster! but that is debatable!

paragraph 4

Ball control works in the opposite direction for one particular player in my team. He has 10 ball control and 9 speed and 7 stamina but loses the ball more than any other player on the team regardless of his position.

Personally I have come to realise that the key skills in this game are ball control(regardless of my crap player) and tackling. When you play a top team what usually happens? His strikers and offensive midfielders win the ball 80% of the time in your half of the field and end up beating you by 8 goals right? Why do you think this is the case? Most top managers have also figured it out and so their strikers also have high tackling balls and speed to defend from the front.

So the way forward would be to build a team with tackling and ball control average above 8 balls. You'll see what I mean when you see a change in your performance because your defenders lose the ball less and less and help you launch attacks from the back. And with your strikers and offensive midfielders also tackling the crap out of the opposition defence you'll start creating more chances to score.

And I figured it out recently after years of playing the game. It's about creating chances. That's it. When that top team gets 25 shots on target and you get 2 it's because he had 30+ scoring chances created to get those shots. And high ball control and tackling is the secret ;-)

Ball control improves ball handling so the higher it is, the better it:
- increases dribble chances;
- increases chances to not be effectively tackled;
- ensures a higher speed on the pitch with ball at feet;
- disclaimer: as any other skill, it is clearely boosted by player's inteligence and experience.

PS:
Never forget that the higher the skill, the better the chances to... 10@ doesn't mean he won't (for ex.) get tackled, like never, but will have better chances when this happens (of course, depending on the strength of the opposing player tackling).
