Should Saint Iker leave Real Madrid and join another team?

Badge image
Possibly the best goalkeeper of all-time has been reduced to the bench by Real Madrid and the idiots that run the team. His best option if he wishes to play in the upcoming world cup in 2014 in Brazil would be to leave Real Madrid and join Man Utd or any Big team.

So what do you think Iker Should do? Leave a Comment.
Should he stay, or should he leave Real Madrid, if so which team would be best suited for him?

I am a Real fan, and I want him to stay, but only if he is playing. I agree he should be the starter, and I have no idea what Ancelotti and Mourinho are/was thinking. Iker is one of the best keepers of all time, and no disrespect to Diego Lopez, but Iker should be the one playing.
As much as I want him to stay, and play, he needs to leave for his own benefit. I wouldn't be surprised to see him join the likes of Arsenal, Man U, or Liverpool. Barca will probably buy De Gea or Pepe Reina, so that makes Man U and Liverpool options, and we all know that Arsenal is interested in another keeper.

Casillas is easily the best keeper of his generation along with Gigi. Mourinho dropping him has nothing to do with football. Yes Lopez is a good keeper but Casillas was dropped even for Adan and Lopez was brought in afterwards. Lopez did well and I guess Ancelotti did not see any reason to drop him so he is rotating them, Casillas in CL and Lopez in La Liga. Casillas did well yesterday made some great saves and kept them in the game. If he does not get more chances then i agree he should leave. I would love to see him at Barca.

Casillas, then Neur, buffon is done. I dont sea United getting rid of De Gea since goalkeeping isn't their biggest issue. probably Arsenal and I dont see Liverpool wasting away the keeper they just bought

I actually forgot that Liverpool sent Reina out on loan and brought a new keeper in. Scratch Liverpool from my list.

I heard before Ancelotti took over there were rumours of a move to Barca, and it's not so impossible. Although there's inter-club rivalry a lot of these guys play together for Spain, a lot of complementary comments out there from Barca players towards Casillas, and players have made the move before. Valdes is going so who'd be a better fit?

All players who don't retire young have a point where they fade, some part of their play (physical or psychological) diminishes. Even if we just stick with keepers, look at Julio Cesar! Mourinho's decision to drop him, I don't underestimate the possibility of some ego and control issue being involved, but I would think primarily it was an assessment of the relative merits of the keepers at his disposal. The fact Ancelotti has continued the stance surely lends weight to this?

To my mind he's of the stature where he's only looking at the biggest clubs: Juventus, Milan, Inter, Bayern Munich, Barcelona, PSG, Man Utd, Chelsea, Man City... Most of them have established quality keepers already in place. Milan are a bit of an exception, because Abbiati is 36 and not so good these days as he used to be, Barca know Valdes intends to leave, PSG keeper isn't especially great... Otherwise I suppose whether Arsenal might make a move? Monaco?

The mind races.

The reason I believe Iker was dropped from the starting XI is simply because of his height. Mourinho stated his dissatisfaction of the teams defending on set pieces, corners in particular, and that is when he moved Adan ahead of Iker in the lineup. When it became obvious that Adan would not be the keeper of the future, they got Diego Lopez (well that and Iker's injury.) Again, this is another tall keeper. I agree that corners were a major problem for Madrid last season, but a big part of that was the defending not the keeper. Mourinho expected the keeper to come out and snag the ball on each corner kick, which just doesn't happen. I think this was unfair for Iker, but he has to live with it I suppose.

Iker Casillas was dropped because of a run-in with Jose Mourinho last year and signed Diego Lopez to replace him, it has absolutely nothing to do with his height.

Casillas isn't leaving Madrid and I think it's terribly obtuse to think that "Saint Iker" hasn't done anything wrong in this case. Casillas was telling his journalist girlfriend about Madrid's dressing room tensions and that was getting splashed over the Spanish media.

Hardly the greatest situation that Casillas put himself into. Ronaldo and Casillas don't get on and if you're spending 100 million Euros on someone, you're going to keep him happy ahead of a potential leak in the club.

Casillas isn't going to stay in Spain if he's sold, he's going to Monaco/PSG.

For the record, I'm a Real Madrid supporter.

Eddie.

I remember reading a quote where Mourinho directly commented on Iker and corner kicks, but I was not able to find this again. I did find this quote -
"I am a football coach and as such I have a job to do and part of that job is to decide who plays... I like Diego Lopez more as a keeper than Iker Casillas, I am not doing this to prejudice anyone, but I like Diego more. He comes out for crosses well, he is good with his feet, he dominates his area... It is legitimate that under normal circumstances that I would choose Diego Lopez," said Mourinho.

- Although not as direct as the one I saw before, he does hint at the fact that corner kicks, and Iker's "inability" to command his area was the reason for him being dropped.

Although I do know that there was a major conflict between these two also. I'm just saying that I don't believe it was all personal.

Pretty much. It was his off the field 'antics' (or whatever you call it) that put him on the chopping block. As a keeper he's still up there with the best of the best. Hard to say who was in the wrong as in the end Mourinho had a sour relationship with pretty much everyone from Ozil to Ronaldo as evidenced by his "the real Ronaldo" comment.
