Strange decision. I'd think you only introduce a second major character like that if the first can't sustain things on their own, or needs some sort of reboot after running out of steam. I mean Man Of Steel was a bit gash, if possessing nice flying sequences, but then you just have to make more of an effort. The character, mythos and universe are enough that a quality film should be possible.
Some way to use the Batman licence, I suppose. Where do you go with that otherwise? The Nolan trilogy (variously dull, botched, vastly overrated, full of plot holes, and far too long) has mercifully concluded, so that's at a bit of a loose end now. I suppose like the old TV series habit, could act as a "backdoor pilot" for new Batman films or TV series or something.
