Typical move. Real Madrid manager is undoubtedly the most poisonous position in world football. Mourinho's had a phenomenal career so far, for me he is the single finest manager of the modern era and one of the best ever. No need to trot out his trophies because surely we're all aware of them. Ancelotti's a quality manager, but no question to me he's a downgrade, as anyone would be.

Real Madrid's problems, as ever, are not going to be solved by yet another change of manager. Barcelona are surely laughing. Chelsea can't believe their luck. They'll be lucky if, as seems likely, he picks them. Man Utd have missed out badly.

I am curious to see RM performance next season...

David Moyes is the better option for man-utd and their sustainability, We dont want a manager that will win the premier league and maybe some other silverware and leave us for PSG after 2 years where he can splash all the money he wants and even pocket a fare bit too. Man-utd never missed out badly...

He's surely going to Chelsea. It seems there's a rather interesting managerial merry go round going on this summer with a lot of big clubs in Europe changing their managers.

Jose wouldnt leave for PSG, stop being melodramatic

I could understand the appeal of a move to PSG only on one level: If Mourinho wishes to set some sort of monumental record for titles won in different countries.

I'm fairly sure, with titles in Portugal, England, Italy and Spain, he already holds the record for most different countries in which a manager won a league title. Certainly in major European leagues. But I wonder if, given his age and his belief in his own greatness, he wouldn't see appeal to adding titles in some or all of France, Germany, even Holland. What a legacy it would be.

Only for that reason could I imagine him moving to PSG, while they're in a period of being so financially strong that he could realistically also challenge for the Champion's League with them. The part of him that rather craves competition and prestige, which is a fairly large part I reckon, would certainly favour England though, and obviously with Man Utd job gone, Man City job seemingly Pellegrini's, and the connection with Chelsea, the latter seems the most likely destination.

Mourinho signed with Chelsea in January. I was at a golf day (how rock and roll) and spoke to an ex-Premiership footballer who spoke to a current (soon to be ex) Premiership manager who said the deal was done.

As cryptic as that sounds, I have little reason to doubt Mourinho is going to Chelsea.

I think Man City are missing a huge opportunity here, yes Pellagrino is good, but actually quite untested whereas if they want a manager who will deliver trophies, and has done plenty of times in the past then why go past Mourinho. This time next season if Man City are sitting in 5th place on the table and out of the champs league again as the new guy 'builds' his squad, you know he will get the arse or at least be in danger of it. To me Mourinho is the safest bet a team like Man City could take, would be good to see him back in the EPL.
On him going to Chelsea, i dont see how that will work, have you ever got back with an ex girlfriend? its never the same and ultimately lacking in the spark that made everything to great the first time around. The same problems will resurface (RA) and the it will be waste of time for everyone. Although we all know Jose will be assured an enormous payday if that happens. I just think its a mistake for everyone involved if he goes back.

He should become a porter in La Masia.

he took malaga to the CL quarters and almost made the semi, he's tested

Re: Mourinho leaves Real Madrid.. Where will he go

So by that logic you would be just as happy to have Rafael Benitez, Harry Redknapp or Avram Grant at City?
He managed the same feat with Villareal, and has won a lot of titles in South America, that doesnt mean hes tested in europe, and certainly not in England.

Re: Mourinho leaves Real Madrid.. Where will he go

Badge image
Perhaps it could be said he's been tested, and failed? Really almost anyone but Mourinho is a definite notch below Mourinho.

Re: Mourinho leaves Real Madrid.. Where will he go

Badge image
he barely lost the aggregate to dortmund, he's tested, if you dont think that defines tested, then i dont know what is, europe > a single country when it comes to being "tested"

Re: Mourinho leaves Real Madrid.. Where will he go

If you want to see what Pellegrini is like coaching a top side, just look at how Real Madrid did when he was in charge. That's the dirty little secret that nobody speaks about when they talk about him.

Mourinho is going to Chelsea. Man City aren't a big enough club and won't be until they stop sacking managers for coming in second place in the Premiership. PSG are just Man City 2.0.

Re: Mourinho leaves Real Madrid.. Where will he go

spot on eddie, his time at Real was poor at best, getting knocked out of the champs league in the final 16 by Lyon, and getting knocked out of the Copa Del Rey by some second division mob while failing to win the league. Not exactly great.
Managing in England is going to be a lot different to managing in Europe, im guessing he wont know what hit him the day he has to face off against Stoke, or Big Sam's Hammers.

Re: Mourinho leaves Real Madrid.. Where will he go

Badge image
He didnt get sacked for coming in second, he got sacked because the team didnt perform well, if you're going to talk like an analyst that knows nothing, keep it close to realistic

Re: Mourinho leaves Real Madrid.. Where will he go

and he didnt play kolo toure enough, city doesnt struggle with stoke, it's the sunderlands and evertons he will need to focus on

Re: Mourinho leaves Real Madrid.. Where will he go

2nd place in the Premiership isn't performing well? What Mancini did this season is pretty much exactly what Alex Ferguson did the season before - where he finished 2nd in the league and didn't reach the last 16 of the Champions League.

Ferguson isn't revered for being a nice person, especially when dealing with players. You don't see Wenger being sacked for coming in 3rd or 4th every season either.

You build a legacy with a single manager like Ferguson and Wenger have. That's why Man City are just another Chelsea/PSG/Malaga trying to buy a title, it only works so long unless you give a manager more than 2/3 seasons to work out how to make his side a perennial title challenger like Mourinho was doing at Chelsea.

That's why Madrid can't win a Champions League at the moment, they are into their 8th manager in 10 seasons? The side has changed so much that by the time they are used to playing with certain players, they've gone and it's back to square one.

Eddie.

Re: Mourinho leaves Real Madrid.. Where will he go

you're not even looking at the entire season, if he had won the fa cup, he keeps his job, that's the main point, and enough with this buying title crap, United buy titles all the time, mancini got 4 seasons

Re: Mourinho leaves Real Madrid.. Where will he go

Badge image
I'll just say this then, Pellegrini is not an upgrade on Mancini.

Eddie.

Re: Mourinho leaves Real Madrid.. Where will he go

Badge image
i'll agree to disagree with that, and the thing with arsenal, while they may consistently finish top four, fans want more than that, fans want more than early fa cup exits, while the owners of arsenal are loyal, there comes a point when you have to let a guy go

Re: Mourinho leaves Real Madrid.. Where will he go

Badge image
I don't think things would change at Arsenal by sacking Wenger. The Arsenal board have already said that if and when he leaves they will look for a similar style manager. Whilst they also have 2 billionaires, that despise each other, owning the club I can't see either of them investing a penny into the club. This sadly means we will struggle to keep up with Man Utd, Man City and Chelsea regardless of who is in charge there.

Re: Mourinho leaves Real Madrid.. Where will he go

Badge image
I know where he will go, he will sign for mega rich PSG or somewhere in a year or two where he can splash out the cash and pocket a fair bit himself. He doesn't do stability
