Superstorm Sandy
By jamiescfc2010 - 30-10-2012 12:25
just watching the pictures on Sky News and just think it's terrible what our neighbors across the pond are going through. I just hope our friends and family in the US are safe and well god bless America.

Don't understand the whole "lol" in the above post. I understnad what "lol" stands for. I also understand the innane need to remove "god" from heart felt, personal belief sentiments, but to add the two together make minimal, if any sense at all. So which is Kevin?

The "lol" in my first post ... hmmmmm ....
Well ...
Hard to explain ... but I'll still try :-)
So when something dramatically happens (Storm Sandy eg.), people seem to forget religion hasn't done much good in human history and .... (nah, this is going the wrong way, I don't want to start a discussion about religion)
Second try:
It's funny when something mankind cannot understand, nor handle, happens, people intend to call out for their god. Even people that otherwise are not living or thinking religious in any way. (this is not a direct attack towards James, I mean it in general). ... But maybe that still doesn't explain 100% my "lol". Damn ...
Next try:
You can see the "lol" as a madman's reaction to the fact that there's no more fighting against the almighty presence of god in almost everything we do or say (like the speeches of every American president HAVE TO end with "God bless you all") & the unmight to do anything about it at all ...
Hmmm ... that wouild make me a mad man, & I'm really not ... grrrrr
Last try:
Maybe I was just in a happy mood :-)
& Now the real explanation:
Well, what it really is, is ...
Sorry, there's my girlfriend with fresh orange juice, freshly baked croissants & a gorgeous body, so I really htg now :-)

"God bless America" is just a generic phrase people use that means about the same thing as "good luck" or "best wishes." It doesn't really have any special religious significance.
Also, best wishes and good luck to all of those still suffering on the east coast. The relief effort seems to be going well, but there are still about 3 million people without electricity.

I live in New York for almost 5 years now. "Superstorm" is a scientific BS, classification based on pressure, humidity, and other bla-bla-bla. The superstorm Sandy was much more powerful than the hurricane Irene last year. The little Irene hurt last year, this year Sandy destroyed.
I got lucky, I don't live close enough to the shore to bother about water level, and luckily overhead power lines (and the trees) in my area held. Nevertheless the scale of destruction is just beyond what one's mind can fit - no power, no heat, no drinking water, no TV, radio or Internet, no mass transportation - no way to move, no way to have news...
A friend of mine lives 3 blocks away from the beach on Staten Island, he had 5-6 feet of water in his house, and his SUV was picked by a wave and crashed in a tree. One of my co-workers, living in Jersey City, had his power restored just yesterday. In the last few days stores work only during daylight, and accepting only cash, because of no power. And he couldn't get cash from an ATM, because of no power...

@tpc: "God bless ..." is NOT he same as "good luck". The fact that you think it is, says enough imo :-)
