An unexpectedly hard shot by Demetrius Playo in the 10th minute of play forced El Salvador's goalkeeper Diego Barraza to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 13 minutes into the match, Panama's goal looked a bit too open when Andrés Hinguanzo came free, but Ulpiano Torrijos reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. A collision led to El Salvador getting a freekick after 18 minutes play. Richard Castaneda hit a great ball. Ulpiano Torrijos showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Andrés Hinguanzo, who was totally free with the ball in the 22nd minute. If Jesús Barrera had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 24th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. A hard shot 26 in the game by Tomaso Lozano from a close distance when the talented Diego Barraza managed to make a qualified save. El Salvador's players were relieved. Ulpiano Torrijos made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Baltazar Pacheco in the 29th minute of play. In the 31st minute, Tomaso Lozano reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Diego Barraza. The goal made the score 1-0. 34 minutes into the match, El Salvador's goalkeeper Diego Barraza had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Ramón Jaen. After having played for 36 minutes, Demetrius Playo managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Panama's supporters crossed their fingers, but Demetrius Playo was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 38th minute Ramón Jaen shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Diego Barraza saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Tomaso Lozano in the 44th minute of play forced El Salvador's goalkeeper Diego Barraza to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball.

52 minutes into the match, El Salvador's goal looked a bit too open when Ramón Jaen came free, but Diego Barraza reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Diego Barraza took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Ramón Jaen, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Diego Barraza showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Tomaso Lozano, who was totally free with the ball in the 90th minute. El Salvador's Diego Barraza played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Ramón Jaen in the 94th minute of play.

El Salvador's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
