In the 9th minute the ball was on its way in behind U21 Iceland's goalkeeper Fritz Snæbjörnsson, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Ionică Săceanu sent away a hard shot on goal in the 16th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. 18 minutes into the match, U21 Iceland's goal looked a bit too open when Ionică Săceanu came free, but Fritz Snæbjörnsson reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. If Ionică Săceanu had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 25th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Fritz Snæbjörnsson showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Ionică Săceanu, who was totally free with the ball in the 25th minute. Óli Hákonsson made in the 28th minute of the game a throw-in that took a bad bounce and was taken care of by U21 Romania's Stelian Cojocaru. 32 minutes into the game, Ívan Björnsson was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. U21 Iceland's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave U21 Romania the free kick. The supporters of U21 Romania booed when U21 Iceland was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 32 match minutes in a wonderful position. Ívan Björnsson didn't get a good kick on the ball. Fritz Snæbjörnsson took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Ionică Săceanu, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. U21 Romania's Eric Neacșu proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 40th minute of the match, managed to save U21 Romania from getting a goal against them. 42 minutes into the match, Ionică Săceanu had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Fritz Snæbjörnsson. U21 Iceland's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Ionică Săceanu was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-3. After some fancy dribbling in the 45th minute, Jesper Lárusson managed to get in a good position for a shot. U21 Iceland's supporters rose to their feet, but Jesper Lárusson was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Eric Neacșu breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Fritz Snæbjörnsson made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Vlad Stan in the 47th minute of play. The U21 Iceland players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. U21 Romania were winning 0-3.

U21 Iceland:s Fritz Snæbjörnsson showed great skill when he stopped Ionică Săceanu:s penalty. Fritz Snæbjörnsson came out of the goal in the 52nd minute to try and stop a shot by U21 Romania's Ionică Săceanu. But to his dismay, Ionică Săceanu quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-4. After a rather tough play, U21 Iceland's Sigurlás Fjölmundsson got a free kick in the 53rd minute. Fritz Snæbjörnsson made an important save on a dangerous shot by Ionică Săceanu in the 55th minute. If Ionică Săceanu had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 57th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Doru Pașcanu took the ball and in the 58 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Fritz Snæbjörnsson. Fritz Snæbjörnsson dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-5. Vlad Stan sent away a hard shot on goal in the 60th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. U21 Romania made a substitution. Horea Şerban replaced Ionică Săceanu. Eliodor Gherdan sent away a hard shot on goal in the 65th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Vlad Stan fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 70th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Fritz Snæbjörnsson having to interfere. After 72 minutes, Horea Şerban made it 0-6 with a short kick to the right side. U21 Iceland's Fritz Snæbjörnsson tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. Fritz Snæbjörnsson made a fantastic save in the 75th minute, when Eliodor Gherdan sent off a good shot on target. With a little luck, U21 Iceland's Fritz Snæbjörnsson got control of the ball when Eliodor Gherdan tried to sneak it across the goal line. 81 minutes into the game, Óli Hákonsson was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Úlfljótur Benjamínsson took the ball and in the 87 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Eric Neacșu. Eric Neacșu dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-7. In the 90th minute, Vlad Stan got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Eliodor Gherdan's shot straight on target was not completely harmless. The ball had pretty good speed, but Fritz Snæbjörnsson firmly grabbed it by the left post. After 93 minutes, Horea Şerban made it 1-8 with a short kick to the right side. U21 Iceland's Fritz Snæbjörnsson tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. Eliodor Gherdan scored 1-9 in the 97th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Fritz Snæbjörnsson, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. U21 Romania played a much better game than U21 Iceland and deserved their victory. The U21 Iceland players were clearly disappointed as they left the ground.
