But to his dismay, Hector Morales quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-3. 28 minutes into the match, El Salvador's goal looked a bit too open when Misael Cerna came free, but Diego Barraza reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Guatemala's Cesar Batres proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 33rd minute of the match, managed to save Guatemala from getting a goal against them. Richard Ayala's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 37thth minute, Cesar Batres skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal. Cesar Batres made an important save on a dangerous shot by Josue Molina in the 40th minute. Hector Morales kicked well hit freekick during the 44th minute of the match. Richard Ayala received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 47th minute. Cesar Batres tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The El Salvador players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. Guatemala were winning 0-3.

In the 56th minute, Josue Molina got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. After 61 minutes, Mauro Medina mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the El Salvador and the Guatemala players grew even worse after the yellow card. Diego Barraza made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Oscar Rey in the 79th minute of play. With a left leg Cesar Batres saved Guatemala from getting behind. When the match had been going on for 88 minutes Jesús Barrera shot a great shot from long distance. It looked like a certain goal, but the audience witnessed a really smashing save by Cesar Batres when he caught the ball only just under the crossbar. El Salvador's Claudio Guerra was substituted for Richard Ayala. After 91 minutes Guatemala's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Mauro Medina who took care of the corner kick. After 94 minutes of play, El Salvador's Claudio Guerra made it 2-3 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Cesar Batres was left in no man's land by his defense there!
