With a little luck, U21 Scotland's Paddy Galloway got control of the ball when Vihar Hrusanov tried to sneak it across the goal line. Munro Symon blasted a shot towards the goal in the 22nd minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Boycho Kamenarski having to make a save. Paddy Galloway made an important save on a dangerous shot by Panayot Papukchiev in the 24th minute. If Vihar Hrusanov had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 25th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Paddy Galloway made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Dencho Staykov in the 29th minute of play. 30 minutes into the match, U21 Scotland's goalkeeper Paddy Galloway had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Vihar Hrusanov. Vihar Hrusanov sent away a hard shot on goal in the 32nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Panayot Papukchiev could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 34th minute of the match, but Paddy Galloway made a huge save. 36 minutes into the game, Kevin Blair was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. U21 Scotland's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave U21 Bulgaria the free kick. After 35 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for U21 Scotland! Paddy Galloway had in the 37thth minute some difficulties stopping Vihar Hrusanov's well aimed penalty as it nearly passed him on his left side, but he still managed to hold the ball. 42 minutes into the game, Mark Kerr was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. U21 Scotland's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave U21 Bulgaria the free kick. In the 43rd minute, Mark Kerr hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Munro Symon's late challenge caught a U21 Bulgaria's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Munro Symon helped the player get up and apologised. After a rather tough play, U21 Scotland's Munro Symon got a free kick in the 44th minute.

After 53 minutes, Ray McCaskill mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the U21 Scotland and the U21 Bulgaria players grew even worse after the yellow card. Ray McCaskill kicked well hit freekick during the 53rd minute of the match. After a rather tough play, U21 Scotland's Ray McCaskill got a free kick in the 54th minute. Vihar Hrusanov sent away a hard shot on goal in the 55th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. U21 Bulgaria made a substitution. Paddy Galloway dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 2-0. In the 61st minute, Zlatko Bondikov hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. U21 Bulgaria's Venko Madzhurov was substituted for Gercho Belemezov. The supporters of U21 Scotland booed when U21 Bulgaria was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 63 match minutes in a wonderful position. Zlatko Bondikov didn't get a good kick on the ball. Paddy Galloway took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Vihar Hrusanov, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Munro Symon could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 67th minute of the match, but Boycho Kamenarski made a huge save. After 68 minutes U21 Bulgaria's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Willie Combie who took care of the corner kick. In the 73rd minute Vihar Hrusanov shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Paddy Galloway saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Fraser Georgeson received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 79th minute. Boycho Kamenarski tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. When Munro Symon came up free with the goalie in the 81st minute, the U21 Scotland fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Munro Symon couldn't finish the play. The supporters of U21 Scotland booed when U21 Bulgaria was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 84 match minutes in a wonderful position. Jean-Christophe von Buol-Schaudenstein didn't get a good kick on the ball. Boycho Kamenarski took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Munro Symon, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side.
