In the 6th minute Cisco Lermo shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Carlo Harding saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. A collision led to U21 Spain getting a freekick after 9 minutes play. Milio Pascua hit a great ball. In the 10th minute of the match, Reinhard Oosterhof tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Xacintu Tormes saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. After a rather tough play, U21 Netherlands's Marcus Blank got a free kick in the 11th minute. Uxio Calatayud hit a great freekick 16 minutes into the match. Amuruza Zapatero kicked well hit freekick during the 20th minute of the match. In the 22nd minute Cisco Lermo shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Carlo Harding saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Carlo Harding came out of the goal in the 27th minute to try and stop a shot by U21 Spain's Uxio Calatayud. But to his dismay, Uxio Calatayud quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-1. 38 minutes into the game, Christiaan Steen threw the ball into play from the sideline. U21 Spain's Milio Pascua quickly snatched the ball and retained possesion. After 39 played minutes U21 Spain got a freekick which was hit by Milio Pascua. Disappointed in the 0-1 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

Cisco Lermo came free with the goalkeeper in the 56th minute of the match, and shot straight on target. The shot was a little too simple and Carlo Harding could save by the left post. U21 Spain's Xacintu Tormes played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Ate van Amersfoort in the 57th minute of play. Cisco Lermo came free with the goalkeeper in the 64th minute of the match, and shot straight on target. The shot was a little too simple and Carlo Harding could save by the left post. If Martien Vervoort had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 65th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. U21 Spain made a substitution. Gaylord Quero replaced Pablo Stoichkov. U21 Spain's Tato Alacuart was substituted for Cisco Lermo. U21 Spain's Iratxo Olmedo was substituted for Amuruza Zapatero. Xacintu Tormes took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Reinhard Oosterhof, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. U21 Spain were awarded a corner in the 78th minute after U21 Netherlands's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. David Mou took the corner. Tato Alacuart was in a good position and managed to take a shot, but he missed just to the outside of the post. The audience thought a goal was coming when Tato Alacuart got free with Carlo Harding in the 78th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. After having played for 80 minutes, Tato Alacuart managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. U21 Spain's supporters crossed their fingers, but Tato Alacuart was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 83rd minute Pepe Serrano shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Carlo Harding saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After 86 played minutes U21 Netherlands got a freekick which was hit by Wim Vroom. U21 Spain's Xacintu Tormes played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Reinhard Oosterhof in the 89th minute of play. After a rather tough play, U21 Spain's Milio Pascua got a free kick in the 90th minute. Xacintu Tormes took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Willy Wilhelm, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After some fancy dribbling in the 96th minute, Tato Alacuart managed to get in a good position for a shot. U21 Spain's supporters rose to their feet, but Tato Alacuart was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Carlo Harding breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. When the final whistle went the supporters of U21 Spain were delighted that their team had defeated the much more dominant U21 Netherlands side.
